Arrow 2.3 Duratec Full Swap Kit-----> We want your opinions!!

We at Steeda are considering some new part and kit ideas that no one else has ever released before.

We want to know what your thoughts are on a full conversion kit that would allow you to literally 'bolt in' a 2.3 Duratec power plant inplace of your factory 2.0 Zetec without any sort of major modifications.

This kit would most likely include....
-Complete 2.3 Duratec long block
-Complete Transmision
-Shifter Linkages
-Engine main wire harness and all other harnesses required for swap
-Engine Mounts
-All coolant lines and other external parts needed for install
-Detailed step-by-step installation instructions, and tech support

Before we would produce a kit like this, we want to know what the Focus comunity thinks of the idea. Let us know what you think should all be included, and how much you would like to roughly pay for such a kit if it existed? Remember, all parts used in the kit would be brand new Ford parts, no used or salvaged parts.

Let us know if you think this would be a good idea or not, and why.... Do you think it would sell? We at Steeda want to know your opinions and thoughts! Your impressions count!

Feel free to enter in this thread any question or comments you may have at all about such a kit. We'll do our best to answer your questions, and see if a conversion kit like this might lie in the future...

Thank you for your time, and please view our other "opinion threads" in our forum and let us know what you think about those also.

I could have used this kit when I rebuilt my Zetec last summer. It would be cool to offer the 2.3 with the Cosworth parts already installed.

I would be very interested in this as my 2000 Focus is feeling a bit sluggish and old and would love a newer heart. I think this is a great idea...BUT I would offer it in 2 options.

1: Full Kit new motor, trans, new everything you need.

2: Cheap Kit, just offer the shift linkages, hoses, wires, engine mounts, instructions and everything but let the buyer source a motor and tranny. Only reason for this is the cost of a used motor and tranny would make this much more obtainable for the average consumer

It would be useless unless you could alter some components to fit the Mazda Speed 3 2.3 into the car!! That is the engine worth transplanting!

A swap to an NA 2.3 I just wouldn't be able to justify the cost and effort.

Overall it's a great idea!

Who said the consumer would have to keep their newly transplanted 2.3 stock N/A?

There are already a few FI options out there for them, and many more on their way.... who knows, maybe we will offer some sort of FI for the Duratec by then.

Great idea!

I like the idea of a full kit, and then a " DIY hardware only kit".

Any other sugestions?

Cosworth stage 1 kit would be nice if it was already instaled

I think this would help a lot more as a full kit can be pricey, and while being a great idea the pricey for brand new engines and trannys can be up there and for those on a budjet it would be easier to source our own engine and tranny from a salvage yard or the for sale thread.

I so hope this goes through, possibly check if you could post a second link to this in the Zetec Tuning section or even pit stop? I mean I know we aren't suppost to but this is a hard thread to find for those that dont scroll through everything. I mean I found it just by chance. Any rough estimates on what a kit like this may cost without an engine or tranny?

I would just buy another car (Solstice GXP) if my Zetec ever goes. I like foci, but life's too short to drive the same car for over 7+ years.

On the other hand...this is a great idea for anyone hard on their luck that buys a gutless junkyard car without an engine.

I agree with the basic and full kit idea. If I were to do a swap I would most likely get the basic kit and a built (maybe stroked) block from somewhere else, unless Steeda could offer that too.

The basic DYI kit I think would sell, especially down the road as the Zetecs start to wearout. Us kids are going to hot rod the Foci for a while.

Honestly, I am tearing my car down right now for various reasons... It would be cool to put a stroked duratec back in instead of my zetec block. Going to take my time with what I am doing, so I probably won't be looking for this product for a few months though.

I would be interested too. Looking at the NASA Spec Focus Rules, you can either build up a 2.0 Zetec with bolt on's or run a pretty stock 2.3 Duratec. I like the idea of a stock motor for road racing because they tend to be more reliable and less costly.

Maybe get one with a quaife LSD installed as well?

I wish you the best of luck, I know there are serious issues with the wiring that you'll need to overcome. If you can make it work you guys will have an awesome product.

I think that this would be just like every other MAJOR Focus mod....alot of people will say that they are interested...but when it came down to it only a handfull of people would actually do it. Plus when it is all said and done, you spend about $4000 for the swap, and what do you have...a bone stock 2.3L. Yes there are FI options...but for another $3000-$4000.

Thats hard to say that its going to cost $4k or even $3k for this swap.....I mean I have seen the 2.3L engines with tranny on ebay sell for around $800. So you I mean that depends what this kit from Steeda would run.

I think you are right in a way and feel we should get an estimate of what the cost is going to be before people really start shouting out if they are going to purchase one or not. I think this would help Steeda out too as you gotta figure if they come and tell us well its going to cost you $3000 to do the swap then obviously you are right people may be dropping out of this fast and this way Steeda would know better that it may not be a wise investment as the cost may turn a lot of owners away.

I think what Steeda wants to do is very doable.

At the moment we are doing an engine swap for a customer. He has an SPI and we are putting a Zetec with tranny and also adding Air Conditioning for $3500.00. This includes parts and install labor. The Duratec would be a little more for sure.

I've owned a couple Foci already myself, and would like to purchase another int he near future. I rarely find another car on the Solo Course that can touch my daily driven slightly modified ZX3.

These cars are a blast to drive. I couldn't really ask for any more, I plan on sticking with them.
