good ole' fashion elbow grease!!

try some WD-40 or a lubricant.

Or try to jack up the air pressure a little on your air wrench or whatever you have.

just a thought

Or use a breaker bar. If you have a good strong ratchet, slide a pipe over the handle for extra leverage.

If any of you guys have a garage, you owe it to yourself to buy a compressor and a few basic air tools. It will make your life MUCH easier. An air rachet is a marvelous thing, and having an air impact wrench for those tough jobs will bring a smile to your face and make the ladies swoon. (Well, maybe not, but we can dream, right?)

Actually, I have air tools at my parent's place, and they aren't as useful as you think.

I have a decent impact gun that supposedly puts out 380ft-lbs of torque.

Often it makes doing things quite easy, and speeds of processes (air ratchet is nice for this). But it doesn't solve everything.

Quite often I meet bolts that the impact gun won't take off. It stalls out, and can't budge it. I get out the ole' breaker bar and that does the trick no problem.

If I had to start my tool collection over again, I would get a set of impact sockets (strong!) and a breaker bar and pipe *long* before I would get another impact wrench.

The bar will take off things that the impact gun won't.

I think one of the problems is the air supply. I was using a little 1.5hp compressor, and I think it just wasn't supplying enough air flow/pressure. Once my house is finished, I'm gonna get a BFC (big f#cking compressor), 230V 7hp 70 Gallon argh ARGH ARGH...

Sorry, got a little carried away.

Sure, it's a few hundred dollars that could be used for parts, but it makes life *much* easier.

I think you're right, Rob, about that compressor being too small. I've got a 5hp, 20 gallon compressor. When I bought it I compared the air pressure/flow requirements for various air tools, and this was about the minimum size.

Sorry to get off-topic, guys.
