Default Re: SVT spring swap

those springs and those bars are not going to mix well IMHO.

too low, too soft, too big of bars.

sportlines aren't meant for performance driving..

and SVT springs arn't meant for bars that big.

and that rear bar and even teh front to an extent, arn't ideal daily driven bars either.

things those require stiff stiff race springs that can withstand the extra leveraging force that large bars create. so they can elliminate some of the flexing that the controls will see and help prevent them from breaking.

I ordered my SVT springs from FordPartsOnline. I have Sachs adjustables so I want the SVTF springs back on my SVT. If someone is looking for the whole SVTF setup, look at www.batinc.net. I think they have the whole SVTF setup for $259.

Default Re: SVT spring swap

Anyone have an estimate or actual cost experience with a svt suspension swap at a shop? I called a recommened installer and got a price quote of $570 for the struts, springs, and rear sway bar install. (Bat Inc. kit)

Fair?

I don't have the time nor the tools to do the swap myself. The price striked me as high enough to hold off until I have the time, thus my reasoning for questioning.

Thanks.

At usual mechanics prices that's 8 to 10 hours worth of work, since you've already got the parts, it seems very high to me.

I would think if you were making the change alone, on jack-stands, while drinking beer, and stopping to answer the phone, change the radio, etc. it should take significantly less time than that.

They've got all the tools, and a lift... if I had that, I think it would be done in 3 hours (maybe 4, with the beer and stuff).

ok I am going to bring this post back from the dead.....I have a 2003 sedan (SE) thats completely stock. I have been poking into the idea of putting the SVT springs on my car but have a few questions:

#1 and most important. Will the SVT springs work with my car with no modification whatsoever?

#2 Assuming they do work, what can I expect as far as putting them in? I don't even know where to begin, as I have never done any suspension work.....ever.

Did you read the thread after you dragged it out of the ground where it was good and buried?

Anyone who drags out a thread that was originally posted over 3 years prior has to read the entire thing, or we will hunt you down and make you read it. LOL.

To answer your questions:

#1 - Yes.

#2 - I don't recommend doing the swap yourself if it's something you've never done before. Springs can be nasty if unloaded at the wrong time.

Enlist the aid of another 'jetter who's done this swap before, as there are certain "tricks" involved to get the removal and installation done correctly without special tools. Tools, for example, like a strut-top nut tool (which I've never seen, but must exist at the dealership shop level).

Seriously, enlist the assistance of someone else to help you... at least for your first time. After that, then you can be the local Focus guru and help others no0bs do their suspension swaps.

I just bought the Roush STG 2 suspension kit. You wouldn't recomend me doing the swap myself. I have also not done suspension work before. If there are no jetters around how much would a shop charge?

Ok I was supposed to install my svt suspension today but...I had trouble finding new strut bearings and I had to order the rear sway endlinks....and what is really so bad about using the prothane bar bushing?

Main question is: for the rear suspension after I disconnect the dampner will the control arm drop enough to where I don't have to compress the rear spring to reinstall?

I've got the hand spring compressor for the front but I was hoping i wouldn't have to use it for the back.

About .75" lower.

When you hit a large enough bump it prevents the upper spring perch from hitting the actual strut and keeps the strut from bottoming out. It's a cushion, but it's not something you want to hit.

For those of you wanting to see what and 06+ hatch looks like with SVT springs, I'm about to do the swap! I'll post photos and a how to when I'm done. I'll be using the new massive kit to retrofit the older struts and springs.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if the svt kit would work on an 08. ford racing list the same sway bars for all and the same damper upgrades as for the 06 and 07 so I was wondering if they were all close enough to use the same kit ( i would love to have a 295 suspension upgrade option).

I'm also wondering if the SVT suspension would work on my '08 S sedan.....I want it a little bit lower w/o the dragging/scraping.

one option that works nicely is the svt springs and the stage 3 roush shocks. not to harsh at all and feels really nice.
