Prolly at the bottom of the strut.

Hey, Ryan, we need a pic of the hole in the top of the steering knuckle where the bottom of the strut is supposed to fit; maybe a measuring tape laid across the top of the hole will give us a measurement.

hmm, for some reason it makes me happy that I actually got an 05/06 springs so I would no for sure that it'd fit. Although since I only got springs and their not officially 1.5" when they said to be, I might get svt kit

well thats weird.
i have had stock, spax and eibach shocks and struts in my car without a problem.

spax were on a 01, and eibach were on an 04 EAP SVT. soo...your just doing something wrong.

Alright, at the bottom of an 06 strut it doesnt get smaller, it stays the same size of the test of the strut hosing, on the KYB at the end its tapers down to a smaller size. if you really want you could come up with a collor to make it the larger at the bottom but i'm not going to. i will take pictures later this week sometime, kinda upset, i lost a lot of money because of this.

you will be able to sell them for very near what you paid for em if you can't get them to work. don't worry they are now there are lots of people here who want those dampers just put them up in the FS forum for what you paid shipped.

well now that makes no sense.

b/c if that was the case and the KYB tapered down at the bottom, then 00-05 owners wouldn't be buying them.

i think either they sent you the wrong thing or your knuckle is different too.

can you take some pix of

1) the knuckle
2) stock front strut
3) your KYB front strut.

Just throughting out some options. If you really want to use this suspension setup is to buy some 05 stearing nuckles. Don't know if you want to take it that far but that would be one way to fix this problem.

Yeah I'm gonna have to agree with Disrupter here. It sounds like they sent you the wrong thing.......

Pre '06 struts do not taper at the bottom either, so the KYB's that you have don't sound like they'd fit ANY Focus

hey guysd, im thinking he may be talking that the bottom of the actual spring tapers down, and the spring wont fit on the perch that is on the strut, i seen a thread about this problem, ill see if i can find it!

The '00-'04 struts do taper at the bottom. They don't come to a point or anything but there is a definate step down in diameter in the bottom couple of inches.

Caneroon is correct, they have to taper, i just checked the part number on the box and it is correct. I am geting them changed back tomorrow.

Dude, no they don't.

I've got 2 stock zx3s
and 5 Gaz adjustable front struts sitting in my closet.

NONE of them taper AT ALL on the body of the strut.

00-05 Front Struts DO NOT TAPER.

I've changed out my front struts bout a half million times.
I've done bout 20 suspension installs

I've never once seen an 00-04 damper taper off at the bottom, and if the 05s use the same as 00-04, then neither do that.

the new 06 is different, we need to figure out exactly WHAT is different and WHAT is interchangable.

I think the change starts at 2006.

2005 STs have SVT suspension parts so it's the same as 00-04.

however, teh 06+ seem to have a redesigned strut/spring assembly. and possible a different knuckle.
