Default Major Tire Rub!!!!!!! Help!!!!!!

So this is my 4th focus and all of them have been lowered, and all of them have been lowered further than I have my '07 currently lowered at.

I have Vogtland springs in it with stock dampers (I've always used stock dampers) and the passengerside rear tire rubs on ANY bump! And If I have others in the car with me, the tire scrapes/rubs on EVERY little bump!

I have SVT wheels with stock size tires, and the only real difference between my '07 and my other foci is that this one dosen't have a rear sway bar....

Is that causing the rubbing?
Is the shock blown out?
WTF?

How can I stop the rubbing?!!!!!!!!!!! My tire is getting torn up!

park your car on a level surface
go to that corner of the car thats rubbing
compress that side of the car by like pulling/pushing down, etc, try to compress the spring
and then release the weight.... if it bobbles more than 2 times you need new dampers

but you probably need new dampers anyway because they're stock with sportline springs

Well it makes sense, the sway bar will basicaly be increasing the spring rate. without one its like having softer springs.

I have a set of good SVT rear dampers that I'm going to put in and see if that helps at all. I tried the bouncing thing and it didn't seem to bounce at all.

It's rubbing only on the one side and it's rubbing the fender. At this point, I'm going to now have to replace the tire since it's so chewed up!

I had the same problem with Vogtland springs. They are too soft for their drop. What fixed my rubbing was putting in SVT springs and using a 24mm H&R Rear Swaybar.

what tire size are you running? if its the 215/45/17 then i dont kno the problem unless you're really low.

how much weight is in the car right now? do u have a sound system? i kno on my SVT suspension with 215/45/17 and enough weight made it rub a little.

Can we get some pictures of the rubbing evidence? You should not rub with stock wheels/offsets and tire size. I've never experienced rub, even with larger tires and more aggressive offsets.

I just put some Goodyear Eagle F1 (215/45/17)all seasons on my SVT,and noticed a little rub on the left front going around bumpy right turns. It has the stock SVT suspension. Did the old strut compression test, and it checks out ok.

You need to use a stiffer damper and get a sway bar. Not only to remedy the rubbing, but to also make the car handle and ride better.

Also, did you check your rear camber?

Cut/trim/grind/file/whatever it is up in the wheelarch that's doing the slice-O-matic on yer tire.

I looked up under the fender and there is a scre stud thing that is holding up the fender carpet/liner. It stick outs really really far. I'm going to try grinding that down to see if that helps....

That is not the cause. (thought the same thing) That holds the carpet onto the wheel well I believe. Just trying to save you some time. Croc Tease's advice on getting your alignment checked could help drastically as well.

Thanks for the heads up!

Here is how I plan on correcting the rear end......

Rear Sub Frame from LCRacing

This has easy camber adjustments and the prvisions for a sway bar....

H&R Rear Sway Bar

And a good alignment....

I'll probably replace the Vogtland springs too. I haven't been to happy with them so I'm gonna get some H&R's or Eibachs.

^ Ummm- Try replacing the dampers with something appropriate for the drop involved before you throw a sway and an entire subframe at it.

Just be carefull with soft spring/dampners and stiff sway bars. Some people think they are the cause of broken rear arms, they brake/crack at the swaybar mounting hole.
