Default Those with Coilovers...

I've got Bilstein PSS9's and I want the rear to go down further. I was thinking maybe I could just take the threaded collars out and that will get me about an inch lower.

I know the right way would be to get shorter springs with the same rate made, but I'm looking for a cheaper way to do it.

Removing collars: good idea or no?

why do you want to lower it that much?

I would not go lower than what the kit can go you might damage the rear dampers.

IMO ... bad idea. I don't think the kit is designed to do that.

Wow, I didn't think of that while reading this. Bottoming out the rear dampers would be no good. If you want to go lower, get them shortened and revalved. Then get shorter, stiffer springs.

Well...if I could just get it an inch lower, I don't think it will hurt the shocks that much...would it? I mean, I could just stiffen the shocks a little more.

I would do that anyway, cause understeer will own me.

if you have understeer you should raise the rear not lower it.

my car right now is about .6" lower than SVT kit. That the highest setting for H&R coilovers with very stiff springs.

anything lower and you get crappy handling.

You want to lower the car until you control arm is parallel to the ground. anything more and a lot of bad stuff is going to happen.

I kno what you mean with the rear, it sits a bit higher than the front. I got used to it though. One option would be to use H&R race springs in the rear to lower it a bit. The bilstien tech said that the dampers would be ok with them, but he recommended to get them revalved for the stiffer spring.

Pull the springs and then lower the car carefully to where the shocks are completely compressed to check for limitations. Another way is to remove the srings, lower the car to normal ride hight and pick up one wheel at a times to check the limits of the shock. This will give you an idea of where your limits are. this being said it also depends on spring rate as well as to how far you can get things moved. I looked at doing the saem with the H&R but found out that the coil size is too small to fit the perch.
