Default Looking for a bit of a tuck...

Hiyah,

As the title suggests I'm in the thought process of perhaps dropping my car a little bit after I get my tinting done in a couple weeks time. I won't be running autocross/etc. or any heavy driving other than to/from school and highway mileage, as it will be mostly a commuter/daily driver for me while I'm away at school.

However, I still want to have a sleek look to it so I guess i come here. I've read a few threads that suggest getting into heavy detail about getting coil-overs and such, but i'm thinking about maybe just getting a lowering kit. Any suggestions or the like? What about something like this: http://www.autopartsway.ca/acp/index.cfm?ID=SBvh~PGpd~MK18~MD1066~YR5~CT276~SC385 ~PT1286701
?

That's about my price range and the exact hieght i'd be comfortable to drop without having to do coil-overs/struts/dampers/etc., as i only wish to drop it 1.5 inches, 2 being max (although i read at around 2, i'd hafta be doing dampeners at the same time).

I just want to give my car a tighter look. The tint will help a lot because i'm in love with the privacy factor, but i think a simple lowering kit would add so much more.

However if the common thing to do it just do a whole suspension re-work, i'll hafta wait until next year - which isn't a problem. I was just wondering if a lowering kit like that would suffice, or ultimately be a bad decision.

Any and all help is gladly accepted.

Couple of pics so you can get an idea: 2003 ZX5.

Really? Just completely swap out my current suspension with that of an SVT?

I work @ a Ford dealership so i could talk to the parts guy.

Hmmm

Ditto the above on the SVTF suspension kit that is still available through FRPP & their distributors.

I did this a couple of years ago to my wife's 2000 ZTS sedan & it was amazing. The stock handling was already impressive but the SVTF kit made it that much better. The lowering was subtle & most people don't even notice it unless parked next to a standard Focus.

Another option is to look @ the kits offered by BAT. They have their own lowering springs as well as a pretty varied selection of dampers along with other spring/damper kits from Eibach, Koni, Sachs, to name a few. I've used the BAT lowering springs on my dearly departed SVTC along with Koni Sport Struts & was very satisfied with both the improvement in looks & handling.

Go with a complete kit. Shorter springs with stock struts and shocks is bad karma. The SVT kit is probably the best bang for your buck. Would also suggest an appropriate rear sway bar if you don't have one now. Then you'll have the look you want with excellent handling and a very comfortable ride that won't cause you to lose your fillings....like mine. Heh. Clean Focus!
