I just had the Koni sport kit installed in my SVTF a few weeks ago by a local shop. My question is besides the strut top plate what else is used off of the old strut and onto the new. There is a white cap sitting on top of the shock body were the shaft comes through which is still sitting on the old strut...instructions for Koni's show this part on their strut or am I mistaken and it is not transfered over.

The only white peice i know of that i used on my install was the clip deal that holds on the bottom of the boot. Its white goes around the very top of the strut body and clips into place. Its has iirc three little prong deals that the boot hooks on to.

They're not ultra-critical, but the boots do cut down on the chances of dirt and grime working their way into the strut bodies along the shafts.

...and on a related note...
Has anyone out there installed the "newest" version of the Koni Yellows and noticed that the white plastic piece off of the OE struts that holds the bottom of the dust boot to the top of the strut body does not fit on the "newest version" of the Koni strut? There is a little lip on the strut that prohibits this plastic sleeve from sliding down into place. ![]() ![]() ^^^ "old" on left, "new" on right ![]() Any suggestions aside from a zip tie to hold the dust boot in place? I will get pictures up in the next hour or two. Last edited by pkolator : 07-08-2008 at 08:13 PM. |

I'm a fan of the ziptie. Seems easier and safer than taking a Dremel to the strut.

that seems like what I am going to have to do.
But I am currently in communique with Koni, so I'll see what they say is a "solution". |

The official suggestion from Koni is, "I talked to our R&D department and they suggested, by looking at the photos, that you try to install the shocks without using the “dust boot retaining clip”"...aka zip tie.
I wont be as nice and pretty as with the clip, but at least it is on there. |

Use a black one and no one should notice. You can't even see the bottom of the boot when the car is on the ground.
