Default Changing the Strut Bearing

Hey all,

I just was reading through the forums about the tsb on earlier Foci for the strut bearing and mount. My question is there is a lot of creaking coming from my front right strut bearing, when the suspension is under almost any kind of load.

My question is, do I just pop that nut off pry the old one out and drop the new one(s) in. Sorry if it is a dumb question. Thanks.

It requires removal of the strut/spring assembly from the car, and the removal of the spring from the strut assembly. There's no other way to get the bearing out from between the top mount and spring hat.

Please don't just undo the top nut without a spring compressor holding the spring. You do have the right idea though. Constrain the spring, undo the top nut, remove the upper perch, replace the strut bearing.

It requires removing the entire strut assembly. Not too difficult of a job though
Word of caution: those springs are under ALOT of tension. Removing the bearing plate w/o a propper strut compressor is a good way to painfully rearrange your face. If you have any doubts what so ever take it to a shop. Like I said, it's not a difficult job but done incorrectly it is EXCEPTIONALLY dangerous.

if you've got the mechanical know how, proper spring compressors can be rented from autozone for $50, which is returned to you when you return the compressors.
