Yeah that CAI intake is nice. its hard to even consider buying anything until the car comes out. I think they will make it in chrome. the big brakes will be nice especially for the black svt..........

CAI is one of the things I was very interested in doing to the SVT. I am curious if anyone has seen any figures on the estimated hp and torque increases with these systems, and also the underdrive pulleys. I looked on AEMs website and they had nothing posted. Also, has anyone seen a price on these things yet?

Very COOL!!! Nice to AEM jump on board in a big way. I'm looking forward to all of their parts for the SVT. And red suits me just fine (since my car is red) hehe.
I wonder why they chose to try to upgrade the brakes.. hmmm |

I was kind of wondering about the need for brake upgrades myself considering the factory brakes ahve recieved nothing but the highest compliments. I also am pleased with the red since that will match my car..

I think that the bang for buck bolt ons will yield the same increases as on other cars, for instance, a CAI (or in my case a vorlant {sp?}) and a UDP, should yield about 10 hp to the wheels, and perhaps more, guess we will have to see what comes out on the dyno. What really will be intreasting to me is to see what Super chip, and diablo can produce. I would imagine that with the VTT, larger injectors, bigger MAFS, and the higher flow head, the potential of a chip is huge. I am hoping that it would yield as much as 10hp. Unless the SVT tuning already got every once of power out of the ECU it can.. in which case a chip may be pointless.
Cam-gears, I have no clue if that will work. Since the intake cam is varible, how much can be gained tuning the exhast cam? I guess i could see chasing the VTT around while trying to dail the gears in. No matter which way the dice fall, I'm excited to see it happen.. can't wait to see how it plays out! Well I have planned on getting a baseline dyno on my SVT as soon as my car's broken in a bit. I will post the baseline, and individual gains from each mod if possible.
I'm not counting on huge gains, since this car already breaths better than the standard ZX-3. I think the exhaust cam gear might yield some nice numbers, but we'll have to see. [ 04-09-2002: Message edited by: belacyrf ]</p> |

It all looks good, I was wondering about cam gears for the svt and it seem like they worked that out. I was wondering if there are any shields to protect the intake from water besides the by pass valve you can buy???
Those breaks just look plan sweet Kee |

Honestly, you can put too big of a set of brakes on a car. It's rarely an issue with cars that make tons of power, but most big brake kits add weight. It's mostly rotational weight too, and it'a all unsprung which is the worst kind. In a car that has less than 200hp, that extra weight can do a lot to slow the car down when accelerating off the line or out of a corner.
Since all the specs aren't available, it may take some time to find out if the AEM kit will add weight, but that's something to think about before you go slapping them on. Also, as many have said - the stock brakes on the car are truly amazing. I would suggest to anyone considering the big brake mod to spend some time with the stock binders, maybe even wear through an entire set of pads before you consider the swap. Before I shutup, I would like to add that it's rather awesome that SVT was able to make this happen so quickly with AEM. I'm sure a lot of behind the scenes work was done to get these parts out so soon and that's really cool. If you think about it, SVT probably doesn't benefit a whole lot by it, so kudos to them for this effort and also the one involving Jackson Racing and their supercharger kit that should be available soon. For those of you who were concerned about the CAI only coming in red, I think this answers your question (it's right from AEM's site):
"AEM's air induction systems are available with a zirconia-based powder coating in red, blue and silver. The SVT system will also be available with AEM's exclusive "Maintenance-Free" polished finish." |

Does anyone know the pricing of the CAI kit for the SVT yet? I looked on AEMs website and didn't find anything.. I was disappointed to see it only gained 5HP according to them. Is it worth it for that kind of gain?

Honestly a 5HP gain to the wheels is VERY nice for just an intake. And I'm sure you're looking at $300.00 + dollars for the intake. They are always high priced. I think you do that, and TB (assuming we get one), you might see some nice gains. IMO this car NEEDS torque... (no I'm not raggin on it.. I just miss the torque in my old engine).
Anyways, good CAI's have a decent ability to add torque over all things. So IMO they are worth it. I just wish I knew when they will be available, I so want to modify this puppy! |

The problem as I see it, the 5 HP gain to the wheels is at 7250 rpm according to their site. Otherwise it seems like there is a very small hp gain until you hit the redline. Now the torque on the otherhand looks like it gives about 3 to 5 ftlbs more torque once you hit 2500 rpm and continues to give that throughout the rpm band.
I'm not sure that the CAI is worth $300 for this gain, and still have not decided if I want to go this route or not. |

Well to be honest, I dont want the CAI at all, I'd prefer to save my money for the JRSC or FI kit, but I have no idea how long it's going to take for one of those to hit the market!
For the interim, a CAI would be nice. Actually my first mod will probably be the Cam gear for the exhaust side. That way when I do go FI we can tune to to minimize over-lap |

Well, between a $300+ CAI or a $35 K&N drop-in... I think I'll go the drop-in route for the time being.

Does anyone know if there is any alternative CAI systems being offered by other manufacturers? Or at least plans to offer on in the future. I myself will go with the K&N filter for now, but I wouldn't be opposed to waiting a while if I knew there was going to be another system that was maybe more affordable.
