Whee, was starting to get a noise coming from the passenger side rear area and at first thought it was the tires. So I replaced the tires and the noise was still there. Took it to the dealership on Monday and found out yesterday that the problem was the wheel bearing went bad. They ordered the new part and expected it today
Got the call about 3:30pm that they are now expecting the part to be in tomorrow by Noon I told him then that I'll just plan on it being done by Friday, since getting replacement SVT parts just seems to take forever.I'm also having the fix the coolant leak, since I'm already getting work performed under my extended warranty. Might as well make them fix it, since I'm having to pay the deductible for the wheel bearing work. Psy

You'll hear a groaning noise, similar to the sound big mudding tires make (waa-waa-waa).
If its to that point STOP DRIVING THE CAR AND GET IT FIXED. I too thought that it was tire related. Shortly after replacing the tires I was coming back from a race and in the middle of the night, in basically the middle of nowhere, my bearing (this one was replaced under the recall already) decided to fail...............and by fail I mean get so hot that the drum housing seperated and the bearing completely seized, locking up my rear wheel while I was cruising at 70mph...............THAT WAS NOT FUN. get it fixed, and get it fixed quick.

That's pretty odd, only being that the bulk of publicity centered around the rear wheel bearing recall were for 2000 and 2001 model year Foci.
With more SVTF's on the road and getting older, it could be another emerging issue. But to be honest, I haven't heard many rear wheel bearings go on the SVTF.

I replaced mine at around 80k. Old ones were fine but I didn't want them to fail 6 hours from home.
I think garyk had one go bad on his race car. The hardest part of moving the abs ring over to the new hub, but I doubt it's an issue for you with warranty work. I think they are required to buy new ones.

I had to replace my rear drivers side around 60k. Got a new one from advance hoping it would be a whole new hub assembly but it was just the bearing. luckly my dad had a press and we could change it ourselves. Other wise it was out of warranty and I didn't have the money to get it fixed.

i'm not sure what problem i have, but i hear a rubbing like sound from the front end when driving. turning doesn't really affect it, and speed affects it as far as the speed of the rubbing. is this a wheel bearing or axles problem. i really need to fix this before my bumper to bumper runs out. typical ford dealers say they can't hear anything.
If anyone has any idea, I could take it to my service advisor that does anything for me. thanks

If you have bumper to bumper...dont even worry what it is. Take it in and tell them the problem. They will fix it for free. Covered under warranty
As for the cv's they will click.

Yea, I had my rear wheel bearing go out on the passanger side, but I think its because I was in an accident and it was mostly on the passanger side that took most of the blow...anyway, as far as it being the same part as a zx3, yea, and in case you would like the number for referance it is YS4Z-1215-BB Hope that will be able to help you.

Cluth grindging might be the infamous cluth spring failing on the clutch disc....which aint covered on any plan. But yeah if the car is under bumper 2 bumper you bug em till they fix it, since you paid for the car and all.
I'd hope the rear wheel bearing design was solid enough by the 02/03 SVT's. When I did my rear disk brakes last month (35k mi) I took off the real wheel hub opened it up, and put some lithium bearing grease in there. Turned smoother than the hub on the other side, so I did that one too. |

The SVT was NOT covered by any wheel bearing recall and the rear bearing is not the same as a regular Focus.
The YS4Z-1215-AA is a front wheel bearing for a NON ABS car. As far as I have ever found the SVT rear bearings only come with the complete hub assembly YS4Z-1A034-AA.

I've gone through 2 wheel bearings. It just happens. Replace them and move on. There is no true fix to getting these wheel bearings to handle abuse.

I had to replace one of my front bearings at ~24k and I think the other one is going now. The service guy was surprised since bearings tend to go after 60+k miles, but he said they usually come in pairs. Boo!

Wow, some of you guys got a lot further than I did with my rear bearings - both rear were replaced @ 28k with my SVT.
If the dealer gives you any crap when you're sure it's your bearings - ask them if they installed a wireless stethiscope on the rear hubs and took it for a drive. This is how they ID'd by bad rear bearings (I had to push them to do this - kinda like pushing Kaiser to pay for anything).

I had to replace my right rear at 8K but at that time it had 2K of track miles on it. I didn't bother with Ford under warranty.
