Pictures say it all. Hopefully they will just send me a new one and not ask for my old one first. My car just can't stay parked. No ride=no work.

wow, that thing is quite messed up, How do your motor mounts look? It looks like the motor had to be moving quite a bit to have that much damage done to that cat..

Motor doesnt move that much. I think it just hit the pan pretty good and loosened a weld. From there it looks like it split down the weld and now just lost all integrity. I am going to meineke tomorrow to see if we can adjust the exhaust hangers to relieve some tension and temp weld it till I get a new one.

I didnt do that lol. It began to split at the weld, not like i took a chisel to it. I am thinking from pressure or hitting the pan. That is still product defect. They have had problems with thier first batch of cats. Supposively they sent me one from the second batch.
Ill keep yall posted on what happens. Tomorrow I am going to meineke to adjust the exhaust and remove the cat so it can be rewelded.

I would like to still pass emissions. I have a few friends that will let me slide with Highflow Cat. But once I go ORP, they have been saying dont bring it here. They dont want to risk losing their state inspection license.
But tomorrow it gets a temporary weld and the pictures are getting send to Random Technologies in the morning. I did buy the warranty and they have had past problems with thier welds. They technically should replace it. But stranger things happen with aftermarket suppliers and the Auto world!

Yeh depends on the mood of the person working that day. I passed emissions with my ORP and O2 cheater, with the location of the cat they would really need to crawl under the car to find it. most places around here don't bother doing that. All they do is plug in, hey no codes your good to go.

That sucks. If they dont replace it, just bring it to a reputable shop to get it welded. Good luck

Wow... that really sucks, I didn't think this RT cat would have that problem since it seems so well made. Bummer, sorry for your bad luck!

*Update*
Just got it welded today. Here are some crappy cell phone pics of just how badly it had cracked and kept splitting. Then there is the super-weld the "no-english" employee did. They were pretty cool. Charged me $60 for welding the cat and putting up some new exhaust hangers. I pretty much did everything else. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I dont care what the weld looks like, its under the car. Just want it to hold together. Its obvious the "pretty" weld didnt penetrate to well and didnt hold well either.
You can make my cat look like it has elephantitus, as long as she stays in one piece, especially for $300 cat.

Actually, I was concerned from the look of the weld that it didn't penetrate the metal enough to give it a strong enough hold.

God, either your cat's got a malignant tumor, or they need to take that guy's welding rig away. But I guess if it works, that's all that matters. Hope they don't give you any flack about honoring that warranty.

I think he doubled the weld. Filled the crack/void with the first go. Then did another weld on top?!? Does that make sense? I know he took his time doing the cat. The guy didnt treat it like it was just an exhaust hanger.

I've seen worse welds (usually on my buddies RX-7) hold together. Hopefully that will last until you can get a new one.
