water on driver side floor board

so i havent driven my svt for 2 weeks (coolant leaking like a bastid / new mazdaspeed 3 ) and i go to clean my floor mats and notice the carpet is wet. so i start pulling the carpet up and all of the green (well its green now) under insulation is all coming off and the floor is soaked.

i pulled the carpet up to let it dry and im wondering if anyone knows where a possible leak point is. the angled part of the floor (by the pedals) seems dry. only the flat part of the floor (up to the seat) is soaked.

please advise you svt knowledge holders!

btw, im well aware of the passenger floor water issues with the cowl and or ac condenser...but this drivers side ive never heard off and couldnt find anything with searching.

only thing i can think of is somthing w/ the heater? hopefully someone else will help more, but something to check in the mean time

your clutch master is leaking that would be my guess check your brake fluid i should be low

The clutch fluid reservoir and the brake fluid reservoir should be two different things. Same fluid, but two reservoirs (in most vehicles).

Any idea what kind of water/fluid it is. You said it is green. From sitting for two weeks, or the fluid itself is green?

the carpet underneath the black carpet is green. it's just an insulation piece under the carpet. i think the fluid was water. it didnt really smell (aside from the mold stink) it wasnt oily at all.

there is a tsb from ford which goes into detail about the possible causes of leaking inside the car , and how to fix them. It has been discussed on this form somewhat. Try searching "interior leaks" ,"cabin leaks " or "wet floor" I had the worst cause, a leaking AC condenser. The entire dashboard had to come out to get to it. It cost me $1200 to have the dealer replace the condenser, the carpet and underpadding. I hope yours is the simpler cause like a leaking cowl, or a clogged condenser drain on the fire wall.

If it doesn't smell, it's not coolant, so that rules out the heater core.
If it's not oily, it's not brake fluid, so it's not the clutch master cylinder. (and yes, the brakes and clutch use the same reservoir on the SVT)

Water sounds like something to do with the AC system, like thelastsvt said. Probably not a leaking condenser if it doesn't smell like anything, but could be a leaking drain.

Also there is a drain in the cowl area...it's usually pretty easy to get to...

The AC condenser is in a box. The box collects the condensate (water) . There is a drain hose from the box which comes out of the firewall in the engine compartment. This can get clogged. causing water to back-up into the heating system and find its way into the interior compartment. The other , more serious problem is a defective seal between the AC condenser box and the heating/cooling system. This can allow the AC condensate (water) to flow back into the heating/ cooling system. It can actually fill the system with water. The water finds it way into the interior compartment floor. As 0SVTf3 said, the passenger side is usually asffected. I had this problem and my passenger was getting soaked. You need to search for the Interior Cabin Lesks TSB form Ford. I well describes all to the possible problems and fixes. Personally, I think you more likely have a cowl leak as you are getting it on the drivers side.

i thought the cowl leak was on the pass side too. it poured the last two days and no water (its been sitting for 2 weeks now). so i think i can rule out the cowl drain.

Not true with any Focus with a manual gearbox... including the SVT.

Try hosing the entire car down, not just poring water on the cowl. see if water comes in. If not ....try this-....Run the AC with the vent open to the outside on a hot , humid day. (not a rainy day) This will create the most AC condensate. Find the drain hose poking out from the fire wall in the engine compartment. Try to carefully snake it out with a piece of wire. If it is clogged, water will pour out. Your problem should go away. If nothing happens, keep runnig the AC. After a while check the floor. If its getting wet than the the seal on the condenser is no good. Another condnesate leak symptom , is that the seat heaters (if you have heated seats) can get warm by them selves. This is caused by water coming form the condenser shorting out some of the wiring to the seats.

ok i found where it is coming in. i hosed it down and from the driver side cowl area..it is leaking down the driver side footwell onto the floor (like on the wall behind the wire bundle) i do not have any idea how to fix this. im thinking im going to take off the cowl and fender to see where the water is coming in at.

Google this- TSB 05-13-3. It is Fords Tech Bulliten about all Focus interior leaks.It should come up. I think it is one of Fords better TSB's
Also, as I said, search the form for things like "interior leaks" , " cabin leaks" "water on passenger side floor' etc. There are many good posts. Consider your self lucky. The 'rain' type leaks are unsuall much less of a headache than the AC condenser leaks. You just need some patience and silicone. good luck .

I'm not sure where it would get in from the top, but it could be leaking through the firewall from, say, the holes where the clutch lines go through.

It is one reservoir on the Focus, as was mentioned earlier.

i still have the same problem
the carpet is wet
the carpet floor mat is wet but the rubber underside isnt
and you can see the water patern on the rubber lfoor mat as well it kinda pools around the heel of your right foot
i took it to the dealer they said they did a water test and didnt find anything wrong and said it was just from the snow on my shoes melting
and its only on the square part of the floor once it rises at an angle for the pedals its completely dry

Try this- You know ,by your own test , that by hosing down the drivers side cowl area , it leaks. Get someone to man the hose, and station your self under the dash looking-up with a bright flashlight. Now have him spray the hose around the same area. See if you can see more detail about exactly where the water is coming from. If not , you need to use the process of elimination. First, completely dry off the area you hosed. Take some duct tape and seal around the perimiter of the cowl, leaving the windshield seal un-covered, and the cowl opening un blocked. Spray the hose, if the leak stops, you need to re-seal the cowl. If it still leaks, Than seal all around the windshield with duct tape and hose around the wind shied. If it still leaks, spray the hose directly into the cowl opening. Use the process of elimination to try to pinpoint the exact source of the leak if possible.Refer to the TSB I mentioned earlier for possible leak sources and fixes

fixed it! sealed the **** out of the drivers side cowl and voila...no more water.
