Default Prepping for the rebuild (which pistons?)

So, I'm starting to source the parts for this rebuild on my low-mile SVT I'd love to go F/I, but I live in CA, so that's just not happening for a D/D car.

I figure I can just make the engine as efficient as possible. I'm looking at lightweight pistons right now, and just wondering what others have used. For my VW builds in the past, I've used Wiseco, but custom spec pistons for the SVT might get a little pricey.

So, has anyone found decent lightweight pistons that don't require giving up a limb and your first-born child?

^ CFM doesn't manufacture pistons. I personally went with Supertech 85.5mm Low-Comp pistons from Massive, and I'm pleasantly surprised with them. Another friend of mine went with Diamonds (a bit pricer) from McNews. But those two brands along with the top dog JE pistons seem to be the industry standard. A quick search for Probe pistons on here will reveal a couple threads about them. I'd advice you check them out if your considering Probes. But as long as they're forged, your good to go.

Also, be reminded that the stock SVT rods will not fit any aftermarket pistons, they seemingly only fit the stockers in my understanding. So rod wise, Eagles seem to be a shoe-in, unless your wallet is deep and you can find a set of Cossies (Cosworth) floating around. Good luck on the build, I just finished one!

Also, keep in mind depending on power goals, ARP Main Cap studs wouldn't be a bad reassurance for a higher (post 250whp) build.

We offer JE Pistons, supertech, CP pistons, and probe pistons. We can have a custom compression ratio piston made by CP Pistons.

We also have Eagle Rods and ARP fasteners.

Thanks for the info guys! The prices of pistons these days are insane! I must be getting old - it's just been so long since I've bought race pistons. So, what's the deal with factory rods not fitting the aftermarket wrist pins? Are the wrist pins too big, or? If so, that can be fixed.

Once I get it disassembled, I'm going to take everything to my machinist for inspection. I'll see what he can do with the factory rods, but I guarantee I'll be going with some decent quality pistons.

I'm just trying to source out my suppliers at this point & see who carries ALL the goods - I like to try to give most all my business to one place - they generally treat you better that way & you have a better chance a knocking a few bucks off when you order a couple grand worth of crap at once.

Micah - I know I'll drag your ass down to my hood during this process. I'll be nice and let you go get married first

Aftermarket wrist pins are a lot bigger. Not worth the hassle to get custom pins to fit. Just get lightweight rods since you said you want to make the engine more efficient. Ahhh, hell, just go buy the 2.3L stroker kit and make some mad torque
