Unfortunately, it's not about the driver when it comes to the SVT clutch. I chalk up my experience to bad luck. I've been beating the piss out of FWD compacts for 23+ years and NEVER had an issue with clutches until my SVT came along. All my VW clutches have lasted at least 150k miles & my '85 Jetta stretched it out for 200k+. The Escort had 150k when sold - original clutch. My clutch engagement is smooth & quick, and the clutch is never dragged or slipped. I also rev match or heel/toe when I drive a manual - my dad taught me on my '67 Ghia when I was 14, lol.
In Jason's case, I think it's just some freak of nature good karma clutch thing or some type of Jedi foot trick that I fail to recognize or learn. His clutch is relatively "abused" on a regular basis and for all intents and purposes, shouldn't have lasted this long.
But like I said, they're hit or miss. One of my high school buddies owns one of those clutch specialty shops & he said in his experience he's found that all the dual-mass setups he's ever seen are notoriously unreliable. 200k miles here, 40k miles there. Sucks, and I wish it didn't cost $800 to move away from this design. Otherwise, I would have already done it.

I also cringed when he told me what he put in his trans.
A $40 trans flush ($20/quart if bought at a local parts counter) is worth the peace of mind to me.

Remove drain plug, wait 2-4 hours, Insert Drain Plug and tighten, Fill with Ford Honey ... Good to Go! (Probably only need to wait 5-10 minutes in reality for it to drain well enough.)
I'm gonna need to put a couple hundred miles on, nice and easy miles when I get mine running. I'm wondering how bad it's going to be!

I know - I'm not saying he's the only one. It's just amazing for ANY clutch to have lasted through the "above & beyond average use" that Jason's has been through. My point is just that it's pretty evident these clutches provide hit & miss reliability.
I checked out the 5w40 and I wasn't happy with it - When you look at the spec sheet, it's pretty different than the OEM fluid. I recommend the Amsoil 75w90 Manual Trans Fliud - it's the same weight and consistency as the Ford stuff & several of us have had great luck with it on the track, auto-x, and everyday use.

I revived a old topic which has been discussed in great detail from people before on this forum. See here http://forums.focaljet.com/svt-headq...-getrag-2.html
But needless to say I swear by Amsoil products. I've been running 7,500 miles on the motor oil and almost 12-15k on the tranny fluid. Yes I'm using 5w-40 Euro Motor Oil. The blend is very much like the normal 75w-90 people use. I did my research last year.. once again I've had no issues and love the stuff.. it's felt fine. (knock on wood ofcourse)
Needless to say I'm replacing both this weekend.

The whole wonderful thing about the trans fluid argument is that NO ONE has ANY proof that the Amsoil substitutes are BAD for the transmission. I'll just stick with fluid that is at least the same weight.

I agree.
My argument which starts and ends with this. http://www.amsoil.com/company.aspx
" Al Amatuzio formulated the first synthetic motor oil in the world to meet API service requirements for automobile engines. The new lubricant performed like no other before it. When the first can of AMSOIL 10W-40 appeared on the market in 1972, it signaled the birth of an entire industry. AMSOIL synthetic lubricants have expanded the boundaries of lubrication science and redefined the performance possibilities of modern machinery and engines."

I would really like to see who makes the fluid for Ford. That could be interesting. BUT. I would rather be safe than sorry, why I stick with the Ford "Honey" Arguably, I may spend some money to have my friend give me a chemical analysis of both fluidsJust to throw in your FACE. Haha, just kidding. I'm really curious actually.

Shouldn't cost that much. Call Blackstone & see what they charge. Hell, I may even do it. I still have a couple ounces of the Motorcraft stuff in my supply cabinet. Actually, not worth it really - the spec sheets are available for all products.

So VF mounts installed. Check
SCT Livewire installed. Check..
Car pulls so much stronger and I don't even have my ORP or Flex installed.. got the idle set to 1000. The mounts feel amazing.. I don't know why people dislike them. I guess I like that tight feel..
Next weeks packages include Toulsey Fords goodies for my timing belt and regular replacement parts.. and I should be getting my package from Dominic with my ORP and Flex pipe..
Tomorrow changing my oil and tranny oil.
Big thank you to Duncan aka DigitalGT on the forums for walking me through loading the tune on my car. It kept rejecting the tune and telling me to return it to stock.. then it would fail. After removing a few fuses then loading the custom tune from FSWerks.. it felt great idles perfect and runs amazing. I can't wait to have my correct O2 sensor and ORP on there with some fresh oil..
