Default FJ Special: Zetec Engine Deal

OK, here is the official post for this deal. If you are looking to build up a race engine this is a great price and you can also help Focaljet out in the process.

----------

66 new,old stock 2.0 liter Zetec Focus engines (vintage2001) classified as surplus and assembled in Ford's Chihauhua, Mexico Plant. These are complete
with flywheel and clutch assembly or flexplate along with intake and exhaust manifolds. They are assembled minus the starter, alternator and EEC-V computer. However, the wiring harness is in-place. Regular price per engine is $800.dollars each plus trucking charges. If you say you read this ad on FocalJet, I will discount the engines $50.dollars and donate a like amount
to this website.
There is an option to pick them up at the warehouse in Detroit and save trucking charges.

Duratec 2.3 all-aluminum engines also available.

Damn... I'm SOO in on that!

So, $750 for a "brand new" engine? I assume they have been run on the engine assembly plant test stand, but never in a car?

Just gotta figure out how to sneak it home in the back of my car...

And pay off the Pectel first...

It would be so sweet to just build up an engine, pop on my new transmission, and drop the whole thing in.

Wrcfan and AxOn,
Thanks for getting this topic straightened out. I can imagine anyone who read a post dated Oct 15th regarding this subject had to wonder why it was frozen. Ollie 18...no hard feelings on this end.

I hope I can be of some assistance in supplying inexpensive Focus engine parts to FocalJet members and to give a boost to the FocalJet website. My thanks too for all of the continuing hard work by Biker16.

KSG... Do you have any deals on the Duratec V6? The Ztec is block, heads, internals?

A while back, my rep had mentioned that some V-6 Duratecs had come in for disposal. Short blocks due to cracked cylinder heads. Perhaps they were the Taurus or Sable engines? He also said that Ford was supposed to send him some of the Cobra engines. These were similar to the Focus engines...new, old stock vintage 2001. No doubt offered at a higher price but still much less than a dealer Some time ago, he had a 3.0 liter V-6 Jaguar engine that Lincoln put into their rear-drive LS model. It was complete minus the exhaust manifolds.

I'll ask to see what is available. Check back as new stuff arrives daily. Remind me by sending a PM or email.

Just ask Biker16 how much stuff there is at the disposal warehouse. He was there about a year ago. 400,000 square feet and a lower level too.
Thanks!
Gerry

Northcackcruiser,
As for your second question...yes.
The 66 Zetecs are complete engines minus the starter and alternator.

Gigaherz,
Ironic you would ask about Focus transmissions. Ford is clearing out their warehouse of new, old stock Focus transmissions...automatic and perhaps manual as we speak. I estimate that Ford will send 12-15 semi truck loads to the facility in Detroit. However, they have not released them for disposal. My rep has to store them for the time being. I'll post if and when they become available.

Can you define "spi" engines? Sorry, I'm not familiar with that term.

As for the all-aluminum 2.3 Ranger Duratecs, the cost on those are $600.dollars each plus trucking. I get no break on those engines so I cannot offer much in the way of any deals. They are not as complete as the Zetecs. Some are missing minor exterior components like exhaust manifolds. They may or may not have a flywheel or flexplate. The Duratecs are classified as quality-control test engines to determine that the engines being assembled in Ford's Dearborn plant are OK to install into their trucks. Some are pulled from every lot as a sample for testing and disassembly. If any problem is found, the lot is quarantined and will not be installed. Many times, the whole lot is sold off as it becomes too expensive to correct them. It is usually an improper assembly problem and not a faulty individual part.

I may have access to the 2.0 Duratecs. I requested them be sent to Detroit from their Chihuahua, Mexico assembly plant. These are the engines in the Euro-Mondeo but there is no U.S. vehicle using them. Ford does have a few in the Detroit warehouse from year 2000. I bought one to see first-hand how close they were to the 2.3 Duratecs. Nearly identical.

Gerry

Gerry, SPI engines are 2 liter Split Port Injection engines derived from the CVH. I mentioned them in passing when we met up in Topeka. They are found on the lowest end of the focus spectrum. They offer 110 HP Stock, but excellent gas mileage, and their similarity to the CVH seems to be offering a veritable aftermarket derived from the european market. I'd be interested in knowing about SPI parts/blocks/whole engines as well.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Gerry, what he means by that is the engine that is a 2.0 liter Non zetec. Therefore SPI.

I may be able to find if any of the SPI engines or components are available.

One...did they have a U.S. application? They would be more likely to come through Detroit for disposal.

Two..is there an easy way for me and the rep in Detroit to determine them over other Focus engines? Perhaps an engine code or marking? He views one engine is the same as another. Just one more to unload, inventory, stack, tear down, ship, etc, etc.

Three...is there a knowlegeable FocalJet member in Detroit to check these out first-hand? It seems a lot of engines and components are slipping past to the huge shops for resale. The end-users then have to pay more money. I try to "rescue" as much as posible then make a few bucks for me and my company.

Regards,
Gerry

Awesome to hear there is hope for the other parts!

Now about the spi, The term "SPI" stands for "Split Port Induction . the easiest way to identify an spi engine is that it says "2.0L SPLIT PORT" across the valve cover in large raised lettering. This engine was available in foci and also 97-2000 ford escorts. On the escorts the valve cover it says "Split Port Induction 2000". The engines are interchangable so either wil do.

Here is a pic of my valve cover..

I'm really interested in getting an mtx-75 manual tranny so let us know if you find anything!

I'm in Detroit, and pretty knowledgable. What exactly do you need a person to do? Let me know.

So, am I right in assuming these engines are were assembled and hot tested, but never installed in a vehicle?

Hi Gigaherz,
Thanks for the photo! That engine should be easy to spot if any are available. I'm preparing a "shopping list...engines, transmissions, etc to give my rep to see what is available.

Biker16,
No word yet on any of the Mazda6 engines making it to the Detroit facility.

P-51,
I'll send you a PM or an email to get authorization to tour the facility. The 2.0 Zetecs offered may have been assembled but never hot-tested. They were never installed. I don't know if Ford tests every single engine or just a sample number of each lot. I assume it is just a sample that are pulled for quality control purposes. Industry standards generally specify just a sample.

Thanks!

As far as the engines go are they gauranteed to run or am I gonna spend the money on them and have them **** the bed and not run. I am really considering buying some engines if they are guaranteed to run, both zetec and duratec. Any info would be great.

I'd be all over this one in a heartbeat, but I don't think my GF would particularly like it if I were to store an engine in our spare bedroom

I got the money and the desire to build up an engine, just no place to put it

Hopefully my mortgage loan will go through and I'll have a house early next year though
