Default Turbo Focus on the way? Autoweeks says so …

Remeber the black SVT with bulging hood? Well there's a little tidbit on
Autoweek.com . Check it out.

According the SVT team, they're going to be keeping the Focus "competitive" but they wouldn't elaborate on exactly what is going to happen.

Just out of curiosity, what was the last turbo-four from Ford we had in the USA? Was it the first-generation Probe GT (1990-’93)?

Another interesting observation:

A turbo ZX3 would be the only turbocharged two door and the only turbocharged hatchback in the US (other than the Golf). Neon/PT Cruiser, Protege, WRX – all four doors.

Wasn't the 4cyl turbo mustang based of the 2.3 block the ford has had around for a million years? That's the only one I can think of. Those were pretty cool cars.

So, I guess that would push it back to the T-bird Supercoupe from the mid-eightys (as the last SC was a supercharged CV-6).

There was the mid 80's (84-85?) Escort GT Turbo and EXP Turbo but I've never seen one outside of mag reviews of the time.

They should have launced the FSVT with the 180hp 2.3 in the first place.

We will all have the opportunity to buy the 2.3 next year And you will all see what my obsession was about.

Well I am holding out for the Focus Cosworth that will be out in 2004-5. And why are they not using the Focus RS body on this car? Who the hell wants a turboed narrow body Focus when Ford already makes a wide bodied Focsu RS? Common Ford use you head why keep bringing the CRAP to teh NA shores when you can save money by bringing it directly from Europe. I am sure Saarlouis will be more than happy to fill that big parking lot they just built with USbound Focus RS's.

Wouldn't they have to re-crash test the widebody model? They do change the rear sheet metal and that's part of the unibody so......it may just be economics.

Just got the dec. issue of Motor Trend and on page 39. In the article "SPIED" it talks about the 04' FSVT:

"SVT is said to be preparing for a hotter Focus for the 04' model year. In place of the current car's 170-hp Ford-built I-4 is a turbocharged Mazda four-banger, capable of 225-hp. That's enough to take on the 215-hp turbo Dodge SRT-4, as well as the Subaru WRX. THe Mazda power hints at the upcoming, all new 05' Focus, which will have substantially different sheetmetal from it's European sibling. That Focus gets 2.0L Mazda power to replace the 2.0L split-port induction Focus engine(SOHC). A 2.3L Mazda four replaces the 2.0L Zetec. Both will find thier way into the next-generation Protege and the new Focus-based Volvo S40"

This brings a tear to my eye!!!!
Ford is finnaly stepping up to the plate, i can't believe it

This would truly be the ONLY spiritual successor to the Omni GLH Turbo.
