    Umm, hold on a moment...
The 2005 Focus now being built is a 2.0 liter DOHC DURATEC engine. The 2.0 Zetec is discontinued from production.

Open up the hood. If the intake manifold is in front and the exhaust in back and there are wires everywhere under the hood it is a duratec. If it says zetec on it and the exhaust is in front and the intake in back it is a zetec.

What are the main differences between these two platforms? Is the Duratec a lot stronger than the Zetec? Does it make more power??? Do you think this change will hurt the Zetec's aftermarket?

based on the fact that the 2.3 come with 148 crank hp and the fact that people here are breaking into the 14's with just I/H/E... I would say the duratec is A LOT Stronger

2.0 duratech = 2.0 zetec with different badging as far as I know.

so, they brought out the svt for 2 years, barely gave time for people to make after market parts, and then dropped it. now they are dropping the 2.3?

2.0 duratec and 2.0 zetec are completely different motors. The difference between the 2.0 and 2.3 duratec is basically the stroke.

Zetecs and duratec's are completely different motors. The only similarity is that they are I4's and that they are 16v dohc. The internals and engine layout are completely different. There isn't a sing shared component between the zetec and the duratec that I am aware of. The 2.0 and 2.3 duratec have different strokes and possibly different pistons.

Not to mention is an all aluminum block and head, versus the iron block / aluminum head of the Zetec. The head design is much nicer, and flows better. However, it sounds like the valve springs are a little weaker (well at least on the 2.3l), and the bottom end is still questionable. No one has pushed its limits yet to see where they will blow.

    Other differences:
    Interference engine
    Timing chain
Friction welded intake manifold (Zetec maybe too)
