    Default cool cheap roadsters

I am moving to california soon, in fact, near where omni lives I guess.

As a mini celebration of moving i'm planning on adding a roadster to my sable and scooter. I'm thinking something cheap/fun to help me appreciate the fact that it's gona be 80 every day, and totally SUPER nice out EVERY SINGLE DAY by new england standards.

914 is a possability, but you have to drop the engine to do any heavy maintenence since it's mid engine...

again, MR2, mid engine, but at least i can get parts since it's a toyota. is this car cool yet?

high mile miata would be reliable, but they're not really that cool either?

I also seen a bunch of TR3's or maybe an alfa? I have no idea.

I just want something small without a roof for short money. I am planning on doing ALL 100% of the maintenece myself. any ideas are welcome.

If your moving out here, don't assume that it is nice out EVERY SINGLE DAY. We've been having really strong winds and some decent rain. However, I didn't see if this car is going to be a fun car or daily driver or project car.... What will be it's purpose?

and where exactly are you moving to out here?

Well of course it can rain, but every single day of the year has the possibility of being real nice out in South Cali. Unlike somewhere up north where you basically have to put all your nice cars away after the first snow.

Rain my ruin your week, but you can't do squat from November to March up north hehe.

Miata would be the cheapest. Helped my buddy with two 914s, and while they have the cool factor they aren't all that cheap unless you leave them beaters (which is fun in the rain... doh).

I haven't found a place yet, but i'm coming down there to rock real estate in the OC. I'll probobly be moving between long beach and anahiem. haven't picked out where yet, i don't know the rental market out there quite yet. major change of crashing with my uncle off of Harbor Blvd till i get settled.

and trust me, the thread of "wind" and "rain" is no threat at all it snowed 4 inches at my house today and it was bussiness as usual. Having a roadster in new england is a 6 month out of the year proposition at BEST, and that involves driving around with a winter coat on for 2 or those months.

This car will be the go to the beach/pick up chicks car. I have the sable for work, so it'll be the 2nd car, but it'll be driven whenever i can drive it on off hours.

    Austin Healey(sp?)

My girl's aunt has one, nice little car, and I mean LITTLE. It's quick and handles pretty damn well. It almost keeps up with my Focus, which impresses me as it has a very tiny engine.

Anything british will require a lot more maintenance
    I've always liked TR-3s & MGAs... but I don't think they're cheap anymore.

A mkII MR2 with t-bar sport roof is fun. A 93+ with the 3sgte engine would be a fun buy. No, not a roadster, but I loved mine

definately the 914. Its such a sweet little car, and don't be too worried about the engine drop thing, a guy I knew had one, and he said he could drop the motor out in 45 minutes or something like that

between long beach and anahiem? That's nowhere near omni....

That's slowcal territory. I don't care too much about their weather.

In that case, you should be fine.

ahh yeah it isn't, but close enough.

us new englanders equate weather patterns to be static in a state because we're used to such puny little states.

The guys over at vwvortex.com swear by the Miata. It's like the car of course around the Car Lounge Forum. If you're looking into them definately get on the tex and ask a few questions and do a few searches. You'll find out plenty about their precious Miata's.
