I got my 04 Focus 2.3l with 7081 miles on it on 12/15/05. We noticed some really weird stuff about the car and I suspected it had been wrecked, so I had Carmax, where I bought the car look at all of the really poor fitment. I get a call back 20min ago and they say it's been wrecked and they want to buy the car back. Naturally, they have no 04 or older 2.3l at all for sale on their site, but, they do have a competition orange svt that i'm going to try to get. It's a 3200 price difference, but seeing as the only reason I bought the car to begin with is because it was EXACTLY what I wanted, down to color, options, everything. That this was the only car I was interested in. They also offered to swap the full suspension setup I put on the car on my new car free of charge. So, we'll see what happens.

They have a good reputation, and the title and carfax are clean. And it's my only real option, I need a car.

I would work on the price a bit. They need to make some concession other than the suspension swap.
Don't be greedy, just a few hundred bucks.

I'm getting every dime out of them that I can. This is bull****, I got a GREAT deal on that car if it hadn't been wrecked. And i'm not sure I can get financed for that other 3k

they definately owe you a discount. Carmax is a respectable company and should have looked at the first focus more closely, so their mistake cost you time and a little emotional attachment.
![]() They should be trying to make a bad buying experience into a good one, so $1000+ isn't to much to ask. I am not sure how bad the car was wrecked, enough for a salvage title? But what if you didn't notice the car was in an accident and you later got into an accident where your car was not structurally sound enough to prevent injury, then they could be looking at a lawsuit and much more than $1000 to deal with the mess. Ok, after writing this little rant, maybe you should ask for $2000... ![]() |

I just asked them to "work with me on the price" because i "can't afford much more of a car payment" and i'm going to see what they do and go from there. If I can get them to meet me in the middle, i'd be happy.

^^^^ Very well worded request...Dealers usually come up with something.. just make sure they are not trying to hide some costs - like stretching your financing or something..

just remember the cost of owning an svt is higher. if you are on a budget insurance premiums on the svt are quite a bit more and also you must run premium gas in it as well. don't get yourself in over your head

Lol, I told them that, that doesn't mean that's neccessarily the case, I mean, it would suck, but I could deal with it if it's not TOO much more. I am more concerned about if i could get financed.

Well looking at your situation.. I would just ask for my money back+ some exta for the trouble and buy a different Dura Focus...
I know it sucks, but the 2.3 Dura has great mileage (better than the SVT, sometims better than the 2.0 Dura) and runs regular and has cheaper insurnace.... are there any 2.3's available in your area from even a different dealer/ private party? Igor

If you decide to go with the SVT, make sure it hasn't been in an accident.

Why not just get your 2.3l back and have them give you the difference back or repair the car to like new? I mean **** I'd ask for a couple grand, or like $500-1000 and for them to have it repaired at the local dealer to new condition. I'd take a 2.3l over an svt...

Keep in mind with the SVT you'll probably have to get a second set of rims and tires for the winter. Driving around the Nap on the stock Conti's is a bitch. Although, maybe not this winter so much.

They're better than the generic "performance" tires his car is currently on. They just put him in a loaner car and the svt is being shipped here... numbers yet to be worked out. They want $14.9k for an 03 with 28k miles... rofl

Who gives a **** about gas mileage? Honestly. I'm going to make the car faster, the mileage will go down. With the 2.3, I was waiting for either focus sport or Hiboost to come out with their turbo kit. I can afford the extra payments, I can afford the higher insurance, and the lower mileage with the more expensive gas. I'm just trying to get them to come down on the price. As for "extra wheels and tires" i was about to order the SVT EAP package wheels for my dura, now they will be the summer wheels for the SVT, and the stockers get winter/snow tire duty. $$$ isn't really a problem here. My credit does suck though, so that's going to be my only roadblock. I'm not too worried about this, I've always wanted one of these in this color, now I have a chance to get it. And no matter where I go to a DEALER, i'm going to get hosed. I'm ok with that, I know it's coming. Once my credit gets a little better, It'll be different. But as of now this is what I have to work with. And with any kind of frame damage, the car will never be perfect again and even if it ever fits "perfect" again, it'll be structurally unsound and I really want nothing to do with it.

Carmax is tough to deal with but you can take advantage of their vehicle transfer program. Make them look for a car that you like if they don't cut you a deal on the SVT.

I've also been in love with the Competition Orange SVTs ever since they first came out, and as much as I'd love to get my hands on a 2.3 hatch, I gotta agree that you need to get that SVT bro

SVT=much better than a 2.3 or 2.0 duratec for anything but engine mods. Comes with every thing already, why not get the svt. tell them to shove it and make it even. |
