Default What do you think about the Subaru LEGACY

I just started to look at the new (06) Legacy. Im not currently in the market, but How is that car? Im Not an expert or anything./ I did a price configorator on subaru.com and a fully loaded Legacy is like $30k and it comes with a 250hp engine. How does this compare to a Volvo S60R and a Mustang GT? Is this car "Safe" as in 5 star crash test ratings and Is it good on gas? How much does it weigh? If I where to get one it would be a manual. Black, With black leather. Personally I think it looks hella better than the Imprezna (sp?) Looks like a box with a spoiler. But hella good with hp.

Heres what the build your own legacy came out to be.

They're great cars.

I think you should go buy one, then join a Subie forum so we don't have to look at those atrocious XXXs in that username of yours.

I test drove one a while back and was pretty impressed with it. Pretty good handling with lots of power on tap when needed, (compared to the Focus that is) with pretty good brakes. very nice fit & finish both inside & out. The only beef I have with it is its wieght, not the lightest car around. Another option should be the Mazda Speed 6. I would really like to drive both the Speed 6 and the Legacy GT back to back to see for myself the comparison between the two....

Have you thought about a Infiniti? Very nice cars, lots of options. My twin looked at a B.Spec Subaru and they would not deal. He goes over the Infiniti dealership and finds a AWD sedan selling for nearly 9k under sticker or about 3-4k under the Subaru. Anyways good luck

I have an '05 Legacy GT Ltd Wagon, 5-speed, my past vehicles include: '04 Element, '03 EVO, '03 Ranger FX4 L2, '02 SVTF, '01 2.5RS, '95 Civic Si, '93 NX2000, you get the point.

The '06 Legacy gets better crash protection than the '05 5 stars on each side, I believe, and Subaru's Ring Protection is strong enough that most accident saws can't cut through it, so with front, side, and curtain airbags, you should be pretty damn safe.

The performance is very, very nice, and in the price range, it's the best you can get. Even though the Accord V6, Camry V6, and Acura TL have more horsepower, they can't give you the pleasure a turbo can give, and it makes all the difference. Below 3K is pretty lethargic, but once the spool is rev'd up, you'll get a grin on your face. It's pretty cheap to bring it up to STI specs (about 1K in parts) and Cobb's AccessPoint should give you everything that you can desire.

The Legacy is very refined, the ride is great on the highway, you don't have to downshift to pass someone, and the interior really, really grows on you, the only thing that feels cheap to me is the turn signal stalk.

Mine's been very realiable, the only thing that I've taken it in for is a broken sunroof cover.

I would seriouslly suggest driving one for a decent amount of mileage, my biggest complaint is the seats are very uncomfortable and hurt my back even with the lumbar adjustment. I'm not the only one that has complained about it. The seats look great, they just aren't comfortable after driving for a while.

Check out www.legacygt.com is a pretty good forum and I've met a few of the New England folks and they all are pretty cool.

You can get pretty good deals on Subbie's so do not pay anything near MSRP, check out www.vanbortelsubaru.com, to see what some dealers sell them for.

If you miss your SVTF, you will love a Legacy GT.

I would seriously suggest waiting for the '07s, upgraded stereo (satelite and aux in), memory seats, Si-Drive (3 different ecu settings, mpg savings, sport(stock), one that's supposed to be 10% better than stock). If you can afford it, get the '07 Spec B, they are putting in a modified STI 6 speed, and upgrading the suspension and black/blue interior.

The gas mileage is not great, it only takes premium and the mpg are rated at 19/25, I've had mine for about 12K miles and I've averaged 23mpg and that is with 90% highway driving, in town I average 16-17 mpg.

Since you are getting a sedan, as look at the '07 STI Limited, not as much boy racer as the stock STI ( front lip spoiler, rear trunk lip spoiler, no vortex spoiler and standard fogs) and you get leather interior, heated seats, and sunroof).

The major thing that sucks on the Legacy GT is the radio and hvac are on one circuit board, so it's very, very, very difficult to change out the head unit.

Japan's '07 Legacy got the updates will get in '08 with an altered front and rear, modified interior, and paddle shifters. Don't worry it didn't get the Tribeca front end. The pics are floating on the net, and you can find them at the forum address above, if you really want to wait until '08.

P.S. if you decide to go with the options you listed, anti up for the short throw shifter, it's well worth it.
