This is a huge improvement. I wouldn't say its in the "right direction" because the only "direction" that I would call right, would be to the "east" (or west if you are into taking the scenic route) over that big pond.

HOWEVER.

The interior? Sex. The Exterior? zomg it looks like a modern car!

The post 04 focus has looked like some sort of laboratory-grown hybrid freak with the body of a pre-05 focus and the front and rear ends off some grandma car. i hold the 05-07 focuses with much contempt, and i would rather them have left it alone until this redesign.

You can piss and moan about how you self-proclaimed "focus lovers" hate it because of this silly reason or that silly reason, but the truth is, if FoMoCo listened to most of you guys that hate it, they would have discontinued the Focus a long time ago, after the average MSRP of the Focus rose above 25 thousand dollars and no one would pay it. ("omg make a turbo SVTF" "omg bring the RS" "OMG bring the Mk2" "omg bring the ST" etc etc etc)

That sounds harsh but Jesus, you guys need to lighten up and have an open mind. Ford has a brand to maintain here, and now the Focus reflects the design cues that basically all other Ford/Lincoln/Mercury cars have. (ie, it's no longer the redheaded step child)

If I were in the market for a "Upscale" Economy car, no longer would the new Civic get a 'gimmie'. I'd have to seriously consider the new Focus.

As much as I'm still on the side of "ehhhhhh" and that its not "Focus" enough, I would still love to try one out for a week to see what the interior quality is like and and how it drives.

Simple test drives are never enough to tell you much about a car.

here's a quick chop I did. I worked with the existing body panels, no changes. I like it. Its clean, simple, and above all, its a focus.

I just did a side-by-side comparison of the 07 sedan to the 08 sedan and coupe with a coworker (who is a die-hard honda/acura buyer) who isn't really a "car guy" but likes small cars.

he enthusiastically said that the 08 was far better in terms of styling exterior and interior

I looked at it again this morning, and still think it misses the mark for me.

The car just doesn't have the radical look that the 00-04 cars had, it just seems too asian for me. I want a car that stands out from the crowd, and is not confused with a civic crossed with a fusion crossed with a ZX2.

The interior isn't so bad, after looking at it again, but it will take way more than lighted cup-holders to impress me. Why can't you get a LED progressive shift light on the dash instead of a lighted cupholder? A Mini Cooper S can be ordered with one, oh wait, the Mini is made for people who want to stand out, enjoy driving, and want a small hatchback. The new focus is made for Hertz, now I understand. For a few grand more than the coupe, I could get into a Mini Cooper S, and that is what I will probably do.

ok so after looking at all the 15 pages, when i started there were only 13. anyways this pic just made my want one. i love the interior, not so much the exterior, but it has a lot of room for improvement.

But since a car like that would only appeal to 10% of the enthusiast buyers on the fringe, they did the smart thing and built a car which will have a wider appeal.

Keep in mind that MOST people buying a car in the $10,000-$15,000 range aren't really searching for an agressive looking, performance oriented car. They want quality/reliability, features/functionality and economy/value.

yeh cuz all manufactuers release OEM 19s, 2inch clearance suspension, and perfect bodykits...especially on intial revealed models

Dam, the first focus came with chrome headlights, and NOTHING fancy until the SVT came out and the "SVTed headlights" became a regular look. You need to see how things progress.

i mean holy crap people, it is just revealed...how many people all of a sudden started LOVING the 05 focus once the SAP came out for it. Relax already. I like it more and more and it has uber potential. Would i buy? No, doesn't pop enough for me and is wayy to hypothetical becasue i am broke and will have my focus throughout school.

i'll sit pretty, doing virtual mods to this car once the photoshop comes and wait for the 2010 before i buy another focus

Noticed that too, assumed it was for press BS.

i don't see ford selling a focus with non-SUV ride-height (as I used to call it back in the day).

If its is sold as a "sport" model, it better have a dropped ride height. If not then maybe the trim level should be called "squishy".

I think its ok overall but im not feelin the rectangular fogs. The interior is decent but my fav is still 1st generation.

I agree 100% Chris. I did the chop, just to use some basic things that we all do/have done to our cars, and exaggerated the existing body kit, to show the possibilities. Sometimes people can't see the forest for the trees.
