Like i said, the chassey and engine bay is the SAME. The parts are allready developed and manufactured to put the 2.3 in THIS car. NO development required. The tooling to do this is ALLREADY in the plant. Why the hell would you drop it. This leaves the focus almost in last place when it comes to HP even for a cheep compact. Hell with the new scions coming out the focus is behind even the xB!
If one of there selling points is "fun to drive" and driving dynamics, americans expect a reasonable amount of horsepower for the car to be "fun to drive" 130hp is just too low for the US as the only motor choice now.

there is no indication the 2.3l was EVER planned to be in the 08+ Focus .. it is possible Ford wanted to save the $$ of building the "special" 151hp version of the 2.3l ... I do not know why they did not just drop the 160hp 2.3l from the Fusion in there... but that is another story.
And yes. this was supposed to run for full 6 or so years ... without any concrete plans for C2 replacement ... thank Fields this car is around for only 2 years.
And I agree with Chris - this car will appeal to quite a few "common folk" - it will have good mileage, be cheap and stand out in the crowd... we enthusiasts were not thought of when this was approved.
PS: I am just amazed that when in 2004 or so when the ",management" was presented with the option of either building this or importing the C1 and the price was similar, that they were SUCH cheapskates that they approved this over the SYSTEMATIC choice of eliminating an orphaned platform ... it just amazes me that a huge company like this can be so blind to the benefit of SYSTEMS ...
oh well.
