It appears to have drum brakes in the rear. Cant make out any calipers.

no, to save money they gave it rear discs like everyone wants, but ommitted the calipers. hopefully they will be offered as an option though

look at the BACK of the back brake. There is some light reflection like there is a calaper on a rotor.. Now i would not be shocked at all for the prduction car haveing drums, but the show car looks like it has discs (from what you can make out of the low res picture.

Drums or disc's (a non issue thanks to the SVT brake upgrade [thanks FJ-1]). I still like the car. What the car uses to stop dosent make a difference to me. For all I care; a 2x4 could drag on the ground in front of the rear tires when I press the brake pedal. Just as long as the darn thing stops, and brake repair is inexpensive.

Ill agree with you if Ford US (smartly) offers the ST Focus in 08 wrappings. Anything less... extremly doubtful. So far the rear discs have yet to appear. And Ford showed the "Sport" trim alredy.

Oh well...

Im looking forward to reading what the magazines will write about the 08 Focus too. I dont think it will be too diferent than what allot of em wrote from the NAIAS. At least they would finally drive the car and give thier takes on the ride etc...

Still; I have to experience driving it for myself.

To Ford. All cars with a manual transmission should have a tachometer. Especially if the new Focus will be as quiet as you claim.

My comment, is it is UGLY. The new US focus looks the the Fusion and a touch of the 500. Nothing compared to overseas. The grill reminds me of a Saturn SL2. And are those actually fog lights, which are ugh, or are they like the old fart cars where they stay on when you put you blinker on, lighting up that side of the street?

Just not nice looking anymore.

ah, the double edged sword of ford accounting.

its been explained to me that more powerful rear breaks disturb all-weather handling. from what i was told, rear disks arent really nessacary for daily driving.

now, hauling a heavy load, hilly areas and track use get into a good argument for them if they are balanced to the drivers needs, for sure.
