UH OH.
i like it... i think i am getting one. the redisign addresses SO MANY of my pet peeves about it. i mean, its allmost as if ford engineers could read my mind! maybe they really are trying -not- to screw up so much after all... looks ugly, but i dont buy a car for looks - and guess what? its growing on me allready. but then, it is just a press release - so who knows? |

it looks ok....at best, but ford of north america is still not understanding what I (and alot of other people want)...the Euro MK2 ford focus ST. Why not? It'll interfere with their all to popular Fusion line with the pricing (oh no) 2.5L Turbocharged 5 Cyl takes the cake over this retro-redux. Who's with me?

come on ron. The cabin from the door sill up is pretty much identical. Same window shapes the whole way around. The only change from the saturn is the rear pass. window doesn't complete its teardrop shape. Same huge front overhang.
*the rear does harken back to a Ford Sierra a little bit but, it also looks like a sentra's trunk.

the front end will grow on me, like when the Focus was first introduced here, the front eventually grew on me. i'm lovin the side and rear profile. i can say the interior has fully grown on me as well, very nice and "unique" from the other cookie cutters in the segment.
oh, i already found something i dont like: DAMN HUGE FOGLIGHTS.

Hmmm.......
MK1 Us Focus to 2005 facelift, the car changed front end and rear ends, but you could still tell it was a Focus. MK1 to MK2 European Focus. Car changed COMPLETELY. However, I could look at the MK2 Euro Focus and still say, "Yeah, that's a Focus". The MK2 American Focus, I look at it and think, "Is that a Tiburon, or a 2002 Mustang?" from the side. "Is that a 2002 Toyota Prius?" from the rear. The front reminds me of some other car that I can't seem to place right now. The thing is, I don't look at this car and think, "Focus". And that's a sad thing to me. Styling cues for the car could have remained while making it look new (like they did for the MK2 Euro Focus), and that did not happen. ![]()

Personally, I'm starting to think that the Focus is just Ford's long-running marketing experiment to see how many of a model's desirable features they can strip away before people stop buying it.

Taken from WRCfans first post:
"The 2008 Focus features a 2.0-liter, Duratec 20 dual-overhead-cam (DOHC), inline four-cylinder engine. An all-new air intake system, cooling and exhaust system are designed to improve the powertrain’s smoothness, efficiency and response." typo on the spec sheet.

that can't be right, they haven't produced a SOHC 2.0 for awhile, right?

OH! maybe SOHC for less internal engine resistance power sucking type stuff. ya know, like lighter flywheels and whatnot perhaps?
maybe this means more economy AND power... ??!?! ...unless i am just dumb and its obvious to everyone else around here that DOHC is far better.... EDIT, no its just a wild night with a big event. |

I for one am happy to see the bubble-butt hatchbacks are finally gone. The interior looks good to me. Exterior = definitely a chick car now imo. It's good that Ford labels something as "redesigned" and it comes out that way. Maybe for good or for worse, time will only tell.

I wasn't really talking about visually better - you are allowed not to like the design, I won't argue that with anyone just because I happen to like it. I'm saying they have built a much better car and in the situation they are in they need a lot of better cars. This sounds like a step in the right direction for Ford. The only thing that disappoints me is the lack of a hatch, but I'll get over it. >8^) ER |

The SOHC is a typo. I got that graphic off the Ford Media site.

Just for the record, so there is no questions or speculation:
No hatchback body style No wagon body style No 2.3 option

Most coupes (and hatches) don't have roll down windows for the rear passengers. In fact the last one I can recall was the Acura Legend which goes back several years. >8^) ER |

Also, for those interested in my personal thought, for what it's worth...
I like it. Of course everyone has the right to love it or hate it. But, to be honest, I'm a bit disappointed in the negative reactions. ![]()

i don't like it!
i've had it, as soon as i get my degree, i'm moving straight to europe and learning to drive on the wrong side of the road! edit: oh yeah and what the heck, no all wheel disk brakes. instead they give you drums out back bigger than the front disks. pretty much every other small car manufacturer gives you all wheel disks, but ford can't seem to get it straight.
