the Focus is one of the most popular cars in the world, with countless "car of the year" titles both here and in Europe. Escort, on the other hand, bears cheapness in its name. I dont understand how Mark 'Bold Moves' Fields can come up with such a stupid idea to change its name.

I'm going to be the first one to call shenanigans though...I don't see this happening at all. Completely aside from my opinions and feelings on the matter, Ford is still listing everything as the 2008 Ford Focus on the website, and if they were to have (or were going to) changed the name to the Escort, everything Focus related would be down by now. From a marketing standpoint, if they were going to rename it, keeping the Focus moniker on the website as short as possible would be the priority.

I really hate this day, I hope you are right (that it is April fools). But after giving this some thought, there might be some sense in it. When the focus was introduced, the ZX2 Escort lived on for a few years. Now if the rumor is true that we will get the gen 3 focus ion 2011, perhaps this is a way of holding open the focus name for that car and selling it beside a three year old escort? What do you think.

What would be Blasphemy, is if the redesign would carry the Focus name!

This for me confirms (if Ford NA can stay in business) that the North American consumer will FINALLY be offered the choice to buy "the real Focus"in 2011, cause now FMC cannot use the blown budget on the 2008 redesign as an excuse.

It will be refreshing to see Ford NA get some positive press, when the "real Focus " is announced to be coming to our shores.

I dont mind seeing the Focus on the 08 re-design. That gives me more hope that Ford NA will stay committed to the Focus. Now if this Escort thing isnt a hoax; that unties Ford NA from the Focus name, and they are free to change thier mindes about the MKII Focus. Or they (Ford NA) would think that Americans liked the 08 escort so much, that we will make an all new Escort (again) on the C-170 platform and forgo the Focus. Or they might not make it to 2011.

But I dont know. Its just speculation on my part. I am only reacting to what Ive read, and I dont like what I am reading.

If the Focus is now called the Escort; then count me out. IMO there is allot of baggage with the name.
