Love the Focus. I drive ALOT (~20k year) the car has been great! The car has been great! There have been a few issues, like everything is starting to rattle here and there, the brakes sqeak, even when new, the seats are cheap and hard (S model). But other than that, its been a great car. I've packed ALL sorts of crap into the car, its hasn't given me one iota of trouble since buying it. I get 33mpg driving like a jerk. Its dirt cheap to own and looks decent when shines.

Don’t get me wrong, I wish Ford would not have dumbed down the focus. It needs a better interior, really when are they going to put a tack on a standard daily driver? I don't need a tack on an automatic its just stupid and you should do it right…. Sheesh. Get disk brakes in the back and put the rear sway bar back on. You have the technology to make the car great, why you'd develop such retarded, ugly new design reminds me of GM. Please don't go down the GM path….

9 min 22 sec on the Nuerburgring with minimal mods, stock engine and street tires.

I causes great big smiles on my face and others sick on their stomaches. Most comments are " I can't believe it is a basicly stock Focus" or " Is theis really a Focus?"

yes, I honestly think that the Focus is one of the better cars on the roads. My favorite bit of the car is the handling. It is simply such a fun car to drive. The next best part is the hatch. I load peoples cars with stuff they buy all the time, and it is remarkable how i could fit so much more stuff in my little compact car than a lot of people can get in there gigantic sedans. My only complaint is that the fuel economy isn't as good as I would expect, but its decent

Absolutely, my SVTF is probably one of the most fun cars I've owned. Puts up with my abuse, handles great, and I've had no real issues with it either, it's been very reliable for me. Now that I've started to autox, it's more of a blast than ever. This car handles so well, especially with the recent modifications I've done to it. On those track days I can really push it and realize how well this car reacts to that style of agressive driving. Keeps me grinning from ear to ear...

I hate the Ford Motor Co. They've made very few vehicles that I like.

The focus has been very good to me though and I can honestly say that I love the car.

I've had this thing for 7 years now. It doesn't seem like it, but yup, 7 years. Everytime I go out of town I can't wait to get back home just to drive it. It's no HP/TQ monster, infact I'm almost stock but I love driving it.

I too am thrilled about my Focus(2001). Love or hate is a little too much for me for an inanimate object but if I have to label it LOVE then I would say Style, Utility, and Performance.

I still love the style 7 years after it came out. Of course, I have always liked hatchbacks.

Utility is important to me. Besides carrying 4 people comfortably I can carry plenty of stuff in it and much more stuff with the seats folded. Stuff like furniture, a small block chevy engine and even a chevy transmission.

Performance was just about enough when I first bought it and it was perfect for my trips to Mexico with it's many winding roads. I have since installed a small turbo set-up and now a SVT damper kit and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust. Enough to make me smile.

There is nothing I hate about the vehicle. As the years and miles go by I am starting to replace some stuff but nothing out of the ordinary for a car with 121,000 miles. I will have to consider a brake upgrade soon but I may just go with all new stock stuff. Not sure yet.

We've had two in our family - a 2000 SE Sedan with the SPI engine which my daughter "totalled" in a meeting with a semi on a slick I-94 2 years ago (She walked away unscathed). Other than the recalls, no problem areas come to mind. The vehicle was a solid performer - lots of room, decent un-modded acceleration, ride and handling.

My other Focus IS an Egg Yolk Yellow 2003 ZX5 with the Zetec engine. Currently has 45k miles on the clock and is my daily driver. Absolutely no problems except new battery and brake rotors/pads. Since May of 2006 I have added the following mods - PWSC since 32K, Magnaflow cat back, SVT suspension, 5% tint all around, FRPP 5 spoke tuner wheels, and Toyo Proxy FZ4 rubber and still running as well as the day I took delivery.

Ah yes. Utility. My Focus is one of few cars I've seen at club track days that can *comfortably* carry 4 track wheels, an EZ up, tool box, jack, and all necessary travel/overnight gear you might need for a couple days at a remote track. That's a specialized kind of utility, but handy nonetheless.

I'm leaning toward adding a pair of 5-gallon gas cans to tote race gas to that list, but I have not tried that yet. Might not be as comfortable then, but I'll probably test that some time this year for a run to Portland. I've seen other cars (like a buddy's Z06) with track tires...but it was not comfortable. Hah. My Audi pals that track their Avants can do it with ease too, but those are 4-door wagons for God's sake!

I love my car. there has never been a thought in my mind of selling it.

sure its had its problem. mostly the idiot the owned the car before me left me with a bunch to fix.

but the car is now cammed and has every bolt on and it drives like a dream. its acceleration is amazing. the interior lines are stellar. the exterior is one of the best stock out there. with minor mods you have an amazing looking car. there isnt a downside to the car, minus the drum brakes. however thats nothing that 400 bux cant fix.

however by far the best part of this car is the suspension and the handling. its is superb. ive driven a mustang with front coilovers and i could do far more with just springs and blown struts. the car just handles amazing. its awesome.

so yes i am happy. and im happy everytime i go to the pump and it only takes me 28 bux to fill up with premium.

It's good to see many people are happy. I have my moments of enjoying the car very much, it serves it's purpose very well when it works correctly. It's a work vehicle for the most part in my case.

From what I am reading, most of the folks that replied are accepting of the fact that these cars have some problems when new. Someone posted wheel bearings at 5k miles. Someone else posted a master cylinder failure by ~5k miles as well. I would have been furious with Ford over something as stupid as that.

What I have concluded is that Ford has a great idea, but it is not implemented to the level that makes the Focus a stellar car. My 98 Explorer and 98 Cobra never had any problems worth even mentioning. All the Jap' cars my mom has owned have been flawless. Just to note.

Someone mentioned to get out of it. Here is the crappy part. The car is now depreciated more than what I owe to an ever larger growing degree. I had even sped up the payments on the 5 year note, and I did get a great price on the car. Still, the car is worth peanuts. That was my mistake, for not researching that Ford Focuses are worth about 17% of their original value after 5 years. I would venture to say that number is on the high side because of my resale value. There is no way I am rolling negative equity into another loan. My car has depreciated approximately 50% in 19 months. Sad.

Lesson learned, and now I am married to this car for some time to come. Never go into debt with cars ever again. Ever.

Hate: The seating position, the random clunk that comes from somewhere occasionaly (prob motor mount), the rear drums, the rear window squirter (mines broke and I cannot use it because it drips and burns the crap from the resevoir into my window), and the way the interior panel bolts break off whenever you remove and replace panels.

All the same likes and dislikes. I love the tunable motor, perfect suspension.

Although, I don't mind the seating after I put in aftermarket seats in the Kona(seating in Chromie is purrrfect...)

The breaking clips on the panels are rediculious. And the rear washer squirter is just down right sad...

]I love my SVT! No problems with it, and its fun to drive everyday. I was away from my car for a 3 months while onit was being repaired (wreck), and it was great to get back in it when I got home.

What I love about it?
HID headlights are sexy
6 gears are way better than 5
Decent power
Great handling-the best handling
It has a hatch which fits a ton of crap
Recaro seats are mighty fine-perfection in a seat
Front brake rotors that are bigger than anything else my family own
Overall, its the perfect size car for me
Its not an 05+ newer design
Works great on the track, on the street, and for auto-crossing

What don't I love?
Umm, there isn't a worthy replacement out there for her for around the same price
Non killable Traction (04)

No problems that haven't been self inflicted and still going strong at 82k.

Well to set the stage, I traded in a 1994 Ford Probe GT for the '03 ZX3. Compared to the Probe, I cannot honestly say anything bad about the Focus, AT ALL!
Nuff said.

100% SATISFIED!!
I've been surprized with the value and performance since day one.
I hardly even remember the day my rear suspension failed throwing me off the freeway! 'Just a fluke on my 2002 SVT. My 2004 SVT has been flawless. Takes a beating and keeps on going!

My loves and hates....

My 2000 ZX3:

Loved:
The color Twilight Blue
The engine being the 2.0 Zetec
The seats because they were comfortable than my late brother's Civic
My stereo system. Man, it was clean and clear when bumpin' the beats.
The hatchback design
The space in the back. I was able to fit a whole lot of stuff in there.

Hates:
No Tilt-Wheel
No Power accessories
Too many recalls
Automatic Transmission
The wheels that came with the car (Some sorry set of Primax 473s that looked like flowers for spokes).
The annoying Magnaflow exhaust that came with the car.
The overall end result of the modifications I put on it (Progress Springs, Split-spoke 15s, Falken Azenis, Injen Intake, Engine dress-up, JBA Header, AC Autotechnic muffler, MSD wires, FC UDP kit, STR cam gears, Red valve cover, Mounttune Tuning vents, Wings West W-Type Kit with mid wing).

My 2002 ZX3

Loves:
The color Torreador Red
The armrest
The 6-disc CD changer
No recalls
The overall look of it as it stands (SVT Front and Rear bumpers, Focussport stress bar, strut brace, UDP, wires, Injen intake, Injen engine dress-up kit, VF Engineering mounts, Yellow Lamin-X Fogs, Seibon Hood, SVT Header, RT Cat, A'PEXi WS exhaust, Super Ground Stabilizer, H&R rear sway, Tein Coilovers, Brembo brakes, Axxis Pads, Razo quick shifter, Kumho Ecsta SPTs, Rota Slipstreams, Sparco Torino, and my soon-to-be-mounted WRC wing and Volk TE-37 Cup wheels)

Hates:
The automatic transmission

Love my focus. Has been mostly dependable. Only issue was the ignition cylinder problem which was fixed 2 years ago. Hope it stays this way, I will be done paying it off in a few months and am currently attending university. I dream about a world without car payments and a nicely moded focus.
