i thought the whole point of it was to sell the cars? i havnt seen it in a long time so i could be wrong, but diddnt one of the people they sold the cars get them for fraud? how do they do that if there is no money? and how are you a refugee if you dont go much of anywhere? Um, it's almost not even worth arguing with you because you're sorely uninformed and just looking to blindly fight, orion
The original goal of Season 9 Episode 3 (Trip To America) was to sell the cars in New Orleans, the trip's final destination, to see who could turn the biggest profit. However they changed this when they saw that the city was STILL decimated from Huricane Katrina and ended up giving the cars away instead. In the final remarks before saying goodnight, Clarkson said that they were sued by an American lawyer because they were told they'd be receiving a '90 Camaro when in fact it was an '89, Clarkson went on to allude that American lawyers take bribes and could "make the problem go away" - that's probably more of that British humor that you so badly hate because you don't understand ![]() -Brian

no, they made a whole big point of how they felt wrong about selling cars to people that had gone through Hurricane Katrina. this was after they had driven through miles of devastated neighborhoods and made the comment that it seemed terribly wrong for the world's richest nation to still not have cleaned up New Orleans over a year after the event. you're right, though. 'refugee' is the wrong word. 'victim' perhaps? doesn't matter. they tried to perform a good deed, and ended up getting reemed over by some lawsuit-happy representative of the church they were working through. Clarkson had mistakenly told the church he was donating a '87 (?) Camaro. it was actually an '86 (?). she threatened to sue him for misrepresenting the vehicle but told him she'd drop the whole thing if he gave her $20K. that's the whole story (in their words, granted). but hey, feel free to twist the facts to prove your point Mike

Ugh.
I'm gonna have to call some people. I know Adam, and I don't think he'd do it.

If it's Adam, I will not watch ... I hate Seinfield and I'd rather watch him host it.
As of right now my dream lineup would be Jay Leno, Tim Allen and Chris Titus ... three naturally funny pure-bred car nuts. I would love to see an American version of Celebrity in a Reasonably Priced Car with a ton of middle tier athletes and celebs from music and movies. Can you see them trying to stuff Bill Goldberg into a Cevy Aveo for a trip around the track?

Tim Allen is busy doing movies, Top Gear U.S.A would definitely be a pay drop for him...and would only be done as a labor of love.
Titus is busy doing "Big Shots" on ABC, doubt that network would let him do work on NBC while under contract with ABC. Carolla would be pretty much perfect; think about it he's the American version of Clarkson. Big head, gearhead, wry humor, loves to rant on crappy things from across the pond, and is a fan of the show already...so he could do its "translation" justice. His contract is clearly flexible enough to be on both radio & tv. He's based out of LA, which is "car country". Leno is making entirely enough money doing his own show, and has said he's not really ready to pass the torch to Conan O'brien next year. No use tarnishing his golden record with an "experiment" such as Top Gear U.S.A Seinfeld, ugh.....hell to the no! |

Leno has been doing other car related shows for the past few years almost on a constant basis. I think Leno would be perfect, especially since he can think up some crazy stuff sometimes.

What about Tim Allen, I keep watching Home Improvement reruns at night and think it could work.
It could also help him get his man card back after those santa clause movies |

Leno's relationship with NBC is strained, at best, right now. I'm willing to go on record... it won't be Leno.

THANK YOU about Carolla!! I've been a huge fan of him for a long time now and I've been saying since the start of the T.G.U.S.A talk that he would be PERFECT for the show. He knows ALOT about cars and is intelligent enough and whitty enough for it to work. I disagree with all you idiots who thing Leno would do a good job. Leno is a crappy host and is NOT funny. He is NOT whitty. He is NOT right for the job. Have you watched some of his clips on his website? HORRIBLE! I do think Tim Allen would be a great host too, but I think he might be a little past his time the more I think about it. As for a third co-host, I havn't decided. I don't want it to be a woman, but it'll probably end up being a chick. ![]()

it'll be hard to film the in-car reviews with helmets on, I can't see and american version allowing the hosts to scream around the track with no helmets.
but as far as US car shows sucking, what's that one super boring one Car Week or AutoWeek, either way, that show is weak. Redline TV on Speed is OK, but still lacking quite a bit, what they don't understand is we want lots and lots of footage of the cars being driven hard, not a 1/2 second shot of a car on a track followed by some lifeless no talent guy talking about how cool his car is for 7 minutes, now cut to commercial. Despite all the other good things about Top Gear on BBC, the most appealing part is that they actually show the cars for extended amounts of time being driven all out. Not like Auto Week, here's some cones and this is us doing a brake test, oooh, exciting, now here's an ugly looking older guy blabbing on about something thing for 5 minutes while the car is safely parked in the background. ![]() |

^^^ where they need to look for ideas on how to do the show is spike tv, more specifically "THE POWER BLOCK". those shows rock. I know there more how to shows but they get the viewer involved.

I'm bleh on Corolla, but hes not the worst choice.
I think Seinfeld, though I like him, is a bad choice for lack of man card. Leno is too obvious a choice, but a good one. Tim Allen would be excellent. Dave Despain would be a good fit. Joe Rogen........um, no. Whoever mentioned Mike Rowe.....YES. He may not have the automotive background, but he DEFINITELY has the man card. Titus is ok, be he doesn't excite me. Either way, I'll be watching.

those shows used to rock, but the new format only makes them tolerable. and as far as Joe Rogan goes, big +1. may not have the background, but he IS a car guy. hell, look at the credentials of the Top Gear guys. no worse than his. Mike
