Default F-150 question. Need some help for a friend.....

Where is the fuel pump? In the tank or not.

I don't have access to his truck to look for it and he is totally car illiterate. If anyone knows a place where I can find some good info on this truck, please let me know. Most of the 150 boards are only interested in the newer ones. No one is talking to me about this. I thought maybe someone on here would know.

Oh yeah, it is the 6 cyl. Thanks.

On the older ones they had them mounted on the inside of the frame rail on the drivers side right after the cab. Not sure about newer ones.

I would say (and this is a massive guess) that if it's FI, the pump is in the tank, and if its carbed, the pump is somewhere on the engine.

Either way, trace the fuel line out of the engine bay. If you don't run into a pump before you get out of the engine bay, it's in the tank

Some had a low pressure feeder pump in the tank and a high pressure pump on the frame rail.

Need the year. If it's the 300(4.9L) carbed, it should be on the non-exhaust side of the motor, or right up front somewhere. I don't know about the v6s.

Try ford-trucks.com, forums.

www.ford-trucks.com

a 91 will actually have multiple pumps. there's two tanks, and each tank will have one IN the tank.

i've had a few of these trucks. what exactly is the problem?

Mike

he is only getting about 60-70% of fuel. We are not sure what the problem is. Changed the filter and nothing happened. I am no mechanic by any means, he is short on cash and we are trying to figure out the problem.

Anything else that would be causing the poor fuel flow?

how are you gaging that? are you using a fuel pressure gauge, or are you guessing?

what are the exact symptoms? is it running, running rough, crappy MPG, etc?
