^That focus looks good but has many traits of a Honda accord... The 09 focus is definitely an improvement over the 08 but I won't be sold till I see a hatch, which I'll at least have to wait for a global design I'm sure.

Of course, then you'll probably bitch about it not being right hand drive.

It's absolutely awesome that Ford is listening to a lot of comments from the consumer and enthusiast world, but you also have to realize that if they were to give us all exactly what we wanted, we'd end up with this:

Yes, it stinks that it's not a hatchback, but it's still a damned fine automobile whether you like it or not.

This statement is 100% correct. Well stated... The car looks good...

Look, last time I checked the ST was NOT AWD! What I want is the ST, and I don't want it for 17K, I want it for the same price as a Mazdaspeed 3, the other Front Drive Turbo hatch that is sold here but who's exterior does not apeal to me! So go to hell everyone who says I'm being unreasonable! If the RS comes here, I should expect it to be priced to compete against the rest of the econo cars gone AWD Turbo, ie STi, EVO...

Ford could probably end this arguement once and for all if the Focus over here was simply named something else. Then people wouldn't confuse the two completely different cars with one another.
... I can purchase or lease a '09 Focus on a student budget right now.
How do you figure the Focus SHOULD be different? '00 - '04 went quite well selling the same car.

Please. Quote someone from this thread asking for that.

Thank you. I'm not sure WHY people keep bringing up pricing as the argument against us, I still am unable to find one person in this thread that demanded a cheap AWD ST.

Once again guys, it's really easy to argue a point no one is making. Try arguing the point that IS being made: we're looking for Ford to treat Ford of NA the same as Ford EU (when it comes to the Focus anyway). Same update globally. Relatively similar options. The argument that's being made against us makes it seem that we ONLY want the ST.

I think I'm truly gonna be torn between the '09 SES coupe and the '09 Honda Fit Sport; this one's gonna come down to dealer personalities and test drives

Has it been mentioned what trim levels the new treatment will be available on? I was initially under the impression that it was going to be for all coupes, but its sounding a bit more like its a package? Any info?

I do believe that it's only available on the SES model, so it's sort of like an SAP.

We here in North America won't see the new global-market Focus for sale until 2011, according to Sam De La Garza, Focus Brand Manager at Ford Motor Company.

People forget that Mexico is also part of North America, the MKII Focus can be purchased there. It's just us US Americans that cannot purchase one. For some strange reason. I will wait until the day that we North Americans of the US can also purchase one. That 09 US American Focus SES is a NAH!

I alreadly mentioned this but you can't get it in Chile either, Chile's kind of like the USA of Latin America. But you probably can't get it anywhere in South America.

I asked for clarification and was told it will be a MY 2012 available in 2011 and the Fiesta should be a MY 2011 (in other words a year before the new Focus). That's still pretty far out so maybe we'll get lucky and they'll try to push up the schedule, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Ya know, i never really noticed the similarity between the NA05+ and the euro of the same years, but i can see it.
Truth be told, and im probably gonna get stoned for this, i like the 05+ better than the 00-04. I never really got passed that interior, wich always bothered me for some odd reason.
Ford of Europe has a completely different thing going on over there than we do, and i dont forsee them ever bringing whats wanted from there here. Even if and when they go global platform theres still probably going to be some changes made for NA, it seems atleast to me that there always is to some degree.
I want a Euro ranger, but i know well never see that truck here, its not what the american buying public truely want, although theres alot of ranger-based-vehicle guys who would love to see it.
The new 09 coupe is a redesign that wont theoretically hinder any of the sales that the 08 has going for it, and yet opn it up to apease some of us, and i think from a business standpoint its a good move for them.

See, that sounds like a good plan, though. If they are going to push the Focus as the upscale compact in America, they need a replacement. I would imagine they are going to slip the Fiesta in right where the Focus is now, and up the price/options of the Focus that year. After a year of the Fiesta being out (effectively taking the place of the Focus in the market) the newer, more refined, more expensive and higher quality Focus will be debuted. This will take a few years of reputation building. Ford is definetely on the right track for un-cheapening the Focus to a point where the current Euro Focus could establish a market dominance in America, while also giving adequate time to slip something else (Fiesta) into the spot the Focus will leave void.

The biggest impact on ford doing the next focus (2012) more euro then american will be the success of the new saturn astra. that is identical to the euro model so if this thing struggles to sell then ford will be more hesitant to make the focus closer to euro flavor then american. Everyone needs to buy a new astra (sell it back the next day)
