Which is EXACTLY the reason I now drive a Focus again...instead of the 350z.

But then on Saturdays I jump into my F250 SuperDuty, hook up my trailer, and tow my Racecar 30 miles out to the Race Track where I fill it up with 30 gallons of 114 octane race gas at close to $8.00/gal, and drive my Racecar that gets about 2mpg.

yeah, I noticed that too..I was looking at used cars before I bought my new Focus, and I was thinking...I'll just get my self another cheap used old Focus.

Good luck finding one for CHEAP. I paid $10k for my 2000 new back in 2000, and I saw several USED 2000-2002's for over $7500!!!!! I sold my 2000 a few years ago for $4000. If I only knew then what I know now.

Two months ago my 2.3 Duratec ZX3 Power Premium was worth +/- $6500 as per Kelly Blue Book. I owe just 1100, then it's mine.

Wonder when these newest values will be taken into coRnsideration at KBB?

Downside: I wanted to buy a second Focus, gut it and cage it for track use. There goes my cheap 2.3 5-speed hatch...

There is no reason to "accept" that gas prices should hit 10$ a gallon. Nor is there any reason to expect it. Just as there is no reason to accept current gas prices. Read the article, article. It states that global demand is still up (thanks to China and India) but production is up as well. I believe production is up at 3.5% and demand is up 3%. They are still out-producing demand.

Every time I fill up I think of when I bought the focus in 2000. I used to fill it up at the gas station across the street and it cost me 9 bucks.

Yep! I wished our legislators had read that before they "grilled" the execs in Washington today. Everyone in that room knew nothing with short-term gains would be accomplished, but they had to look like they were trying to help.

At the very least, Congress needs to repeal the current tax breaks for Big Oil, there is no argument for keeping it in place.

The main problem is that those companies have little incentive to find alternate drilling sites or develop non-petroleum fuel sources. There is no shortage, they are meeting demand and raking in tons of money. Beyond altruism, there is no profit in changing the current situation.

If I were in their shoes, I'd be working on some super-clean method to extract oil from the Rockies and Alaska without environmental risks...

They already can, and the advancements in directional drilling are amazing. You can tap 40 wells from a single pad.

Yes they can do something about it if they wanted, and they are only trying to heighten fears to keep this speculation bubble going, while they rack up the big bucks... still costs them only about $3-4 a barrel, and they have 80% of the world reserves. If the government can regulate what kind of rates your cable TV company can charge http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/cablerates.html, why can't they regulate what oil companies can charge for petrol?

I think one of these two has a larger impact on the economy than the other.....

Oil is a global market, when the word "production" is used, how is it being used. It doesn't come out of the ground, and go right to the gas station. Speculators know that refineries shut down in late spring/early summer for maintenence. There are also weather events that impact this. The cost to extract oil is rising, due to wages, infrastructure, and "green" initiatives. Fuel prices (oil by the barrell) cannot be regulated by the government because it is a commodity used in trade... I live in Alberta, and oil is debated all day long, but my car doesn't run on dreams yet, and there doesn't seem to be a reduction in costs comming, I pay...
