They still would eat the costs of producing the 08's and pay for federal crash and safety tests, and transport the cars from the Atlantic to all of the places that will carry the C1's, and pay for advertising, and the cars might not sell as well as projected. Then what?

Getting the C2 ready to take over after the 08 US is retired is the best option for Ford. The car should have no problems selling, Eco-Boost, great styling, and more choices than just a coupe and a sedan.

+1 Although 2010 sounds like forever away (especially when we were talking about it in what, 2006?) you have to remember that 2008 is half way over, we're almost into July people. That means in a year and half we will have the C1 (aka C2) Focus. Ford technically could put it a little faster, but without first hand knowledge of how things work, you really can't get a concept of manufacturing. In my line of work, I test control boards that go into the airplanes you fly in. I test them today and they won't even be in airplanes until two years from now. I've been doing this for almost two years and my first initial boards I tested aren't even in airplanes. From a business standpoint they're going as fast as they can.

2010 is too long? Its 2208 right now, the 09's are about due. You are talking about only 1 year from now. Thats reasonable. Its the one good thing about high gas prices, renewed interest in cars.

I said that as well in the 09 Focus thread, but was corrected.

Hopefully there's an ST trim available right out of the gate. I'm thinking the Focus can make it another 2 years as a DD.

well the stability control in the 09 focus made it 100% their will be a 2010 of the current focus. Ford would not ad it in the last model year, one year before it was required by law (MY 2010 needs stability control) so that made the new car at least some time after the 2010 MY. I origonally thought it be a 2012MY in 2011, so this is fast tracked by a year.

Since someone turned left in front of me a couple weeks back and I am still waiting for the police report so I can get a check. I wanted to get a new focus, but I don't like what they are putting out now. Hearing the euro models are coming is great, but I'm stuck buying something else now and if I'm lucky, I'll be able to trade that in on the Euro model...or I'll just watch everyone else be happy with the new ones.

The timing sucks

I'm somewhat in the same boat. Thing is, say you buy a new car now, you get a few years into the generation. Heaven forbid history repeats itself and issues come up in 2011/12, you'd be set to get a new Euro Focus when the bugs are worked out

I will know what direction I have to go when I find out how much the settlement comes down to. I'd love to be able to get a euro focus, but I will have to see where this road leads.
I'd be there ordering one, if that comes about.

Well...its about time...too bad, I'll probably be deep in a new GTI payment or R32 payment (hopefully).

But heres something we can speculate on in the meantime...

AWD? Turbo 4? Diesels? Cost?

i dont think ford has any plans for awd or diesel. turbo is a possibility tho since there going into the whole ecoboost line. cost i would assume will go up a bit. since the fiesta would be a cheaper car, but they cant make it 11k i dont think. so the focus would get bumped up a bit. thats jmo
