Brooks institute students, Faculty, and alumni experience life in the fast lane
VENTURA, Calif. – (July 28, 2008) –Brooks Institute Film faculty members Glynn Beard and Dale Angell formed a unique partnership with Allan Crocket, founder and owner of The Barber Driving Experience; in so doing, building a lifetime opportunity for students from all disciplines at Brooks Institute. This dynamic partnership between Brooks and The Barber Driving Experience enables students to gain real-world job experience on an intense, fast-paced and fun, commercial production.
Since February 2008, Brooks Institute faculty, students, and alumni have been documenting The Barber Driving Experience in cooperation with Redline Track Events Time Attack www.redlinetrackevents.com and the Ford Focus Challenge. Students are able to participate at all levels of the production from concept to finished output. The results have included multiple commercial spots, on-site capture of high-speed cars, special effects, track-side photography of race day, along with presentation of the stories behind the drivers and their cars to the media.
“The relationship between Brooks Institute and the Barbara Driving Experience has allowed us to bring the community of Brooks together. Students, faculty and alumni from multiple disciplines get to interact with the outside community in a distinctively imaginative and creative manner through an experience which is priceless – it is true ‘hands-on learning,” said Glynn Beard, Brooks faculty, mastermind and driving force behind the project “We provide an opportunity few, if any, other schools offer their students: the ability to work in the field on a professional level - an invaluable tool to students learning their craft - to film unique and professional events. Moreover, it occurs in a demanding, blistering fast, and extremely FUN environment. We take away an enormous amount of value from each event, which will stay with us throughout our careers.”
Brooks Institute took part in the unveiling of the completely redesigned 2009 Ford Focus on May 15, 2008 in Irvine, California. This was the beginning of an ongoing project in which Brooks Institute students and faculty members will film the rear versus front wheel challenge, a challenge pitting the Ford Focus against the BDX (Barber Driving Experience) Mustang, which will be premiered in Las Vegas later this summer at theSEMA Show.
Rich Hockett, Marketing instructor at Brooks Institute - as well as still photographer on the project - states, “This is an exceptional opportunity for the Brooks Institute community to showcase students’ work produced for a commercial client under demanding conditions. The SEMA Show will host an international audience consisting of car aficionados, auto-industry executives, designers, and enthusiasts. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
