NEW CHALLENGES DESCRIPTION AND AWARD CRITERIA

4. Driver with slowest "Fast Lap" during the race (2pts)
As the sentence reads, whoever picks the driver with the slowest "Fast Lap" will be given 2 points. Official determination will be declared by the last row on the Formula1.com "Fastest Lap" table for this race.

6. Highest number of grid positions gained by any driver (2pts)
Using the "Grid" and "Pos" column of the result table on Formula1.com, I will calculate Grid - Pos = positions gained. Whoever matches the highest number of positions gained will be given 2 pts. All retired drivers will not be included, for obvious reasons.

7. No. of cars retired (2pts)
Exactly what the sentence says. The Formula1.com results table shows the word Ret on the Position column for each driver that retires for X reason, your job is to predict how many of these Rets will we have.

8. BONUS ROUND: FIRST DRIVER TO PIT
This will be based on the "Pit Stop Summary" Table on Formula1.com. Whatever driver shows up on the first row will be your job to guess.

I will have to make my picks today, as I will be away from a computer from Friday until Monday. I really need a TiVo or DVR to catch up on all the races I have missed this summer. I hate having them on Fox!

I've been watching these posts since the begining of the season... could there be another column to show who has moved up or down a position(s) from week to week?

Question on this. Formula1 doesn't classify any car that stops in the last 10 laps as "retired". For example, if a car blows an engine with 6 laps to go, he is not classified as "retired" in the official F1 results. Are we going with the Official FIA rules on this, or would any cars that retire within the last 10 laps also be included in this number?

I'm not sure how Formula 1 does this, but it probably reflects what's shown on the results table. That's why we'll go with whatever formula1.com ones writes as "Ret" on the position column. You can go to their website and see their past results to see what I'm talking about.

It's just a wild shot anyways

Currently I have a master excel sheet that I've tweaked over the two previous years. It's set up for seven entries with three of them worth 3 points and four entries worth 2 points. These entries can of course be about anything, but we usually keep them pretty standard with the top three finishes and qualifying pole. Things like the Bonus points have to be inputted manually for each player, but it's not too hard to do.

I can't think of the top of my head quick fire way to add such feature on excel, but I'll certainly look into it for later this season or maybe next year. In the meantime, ask azbobbybooshay_10, he did it manually a couple of times.

Also, how about you make some picks instead of just standing on the sidelines? That goes to you too jinstall!

Sonofabitch, I had Hamilton for pole for about 2 minutes, then changed my mind and put Massa in instead.

Yeah, if it wasn't for Hamilton skipping the pit mayhem the race would have been a bore.

Massa makes it very hard to be a Massa fan. He just handed that race to Hamilton on a platter. I can't believe he didn't protect that corner. What an idiot!

How about an atta boy to Piquet, Jr! He's gotten a lot of crap this year, but he drove great in this race. I honestly was glad to see him not do anything stupid with Hamilton on him late, I'd rather he finish 2nd than wreck himself doing something stupid trying to win.

Looks like no one got the bonus points for this one, here's the "preliminary results" for the race. I will calculate some standings tomorrow when I'm not falling asleep, lol.

1. First Place (3pts) - Lewis Hamilton (22)
2. Second Place (3pts) - Nelson Piquet, Jr. (6)
3. Third Place (3pts) - Felipe Massa (2)
4. Driver with slowest "Fast Lap" during the race (2pts) - Giancarlo Fisichella (21)
5. Qualifying Pole Position (2pts) - Lewis Hamilton (22)
6. Highest number of grid positions gained by any driver (2pts) - Nelson Piquet, Jr (6) OR 15 positions gained, depending on how you read the rules (I think I misunderstood what we were picking, lol)
7. No. of cars retired (2pts) - 3
8. BONUS ROUND: GUESS THE FIRST DRIVER TO PIT (8 PTS!!!) - Sebastian Vettel (15)

STILL kicking myself for changing my pole pick to Massa about 2 minutes after I made my picks. Ugh, should have stayed with Hamilton...

Oh, and I think sleeprfocus is taunting us now, he picked Anthony Davidson in the Super Aguri for "slowest fast lap"....

I was out of town this weekend and missed another race. I turned on Speed in the hotel at 7:30 hoping to watch the race, but it was not on. I assumed it was on Fox again in the afternoon, and I was going to be driving home then. I really hate races that are tape delayed.

OK guys, here we go. Unofficial of course, I used my trusty Max Mosely calculator for all this, so if I'm wrong, whip me...

ROUND RESULTS

1. sleeprfocus (8)
1. thefrush (8)
3. Thameth (5)
3. BUR_ZX3 (5)
3. azbobbybooshay_10 (5)
3. 2xtremefocus (5)
7. BRZX3R (2)
8. hEaT (0)
8. LocoFoci (0)

DNQ - Gobstopper, Hitokori, sleeperlove, Reedicus26, dday216, nilo, hksvt_03, girltastic, RallyRide, belacyrf, Z63R

And now, for the moment you have all been waiting for...

UNOFFICIAL CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS (Round 10 of 18)
1. sleeprfocus........................66
2. BRZX3R............................44
3. Thameth...........................43
4. thefrush............................42
5. hEaT.................................41
5. BUR_ZX3..........................41
7. CTZX3..............................40
7. azbobbybooshay_10........40
9. 2xtremefocus...................35
10. gobstopper.....................31

5. CTZX3, Thameth, BUR_ZX3, azbobbybooshay_10, 2xtremefocus, Hitokori, Locofoci, Reedicus26, nilo, RallyRide.....1 win each

HALFWAY RECAP (a little late)
With 17 points possible per race (not including BONUS ROUNDS), sleeprfocus is over a complete race ahead of everyone else. In fact, if everyone else all scored the full 17 points, and sleeprfocus sat out two whole races, the furthest he could possibly fall is 9th place! However, 2nd through 10th are all within 1 race of each other, with Hitokori and sleeperlove just a couple points behind that. 2007 Champion belacyrf is still looking for some of that championship magic, as he only has 2 points through 10 races, and is all but out of any chance of a top 10 finish. In fact, of the 3 podium finishers in 2007 (belacyrf, azbobbybooshay_10, and 2xtremefocus), azbobbybooshay_10 is currently the highest in 7th place, a full 26 points out of the lead. In the Rookie of the Year standings, BRZX3R is currently leading, with an outstanding 2nd place ranking thusfar this season. CTZX3 is also having a great rookie year, sitting in 7th place, only 4 points behind BRZX3R. The second half of the 2008 season should be exciting, be sure to remember to get your picks in before qualifying! Its still anyone's ballgame, especially if sleeprfocus keeps picking Super Aguri cars for his picks!
