Default Most difficult cars to get your hands on currently

Forbes has a list of the hardest cars to get. The supply numbers relate to how long a car sits on the dealer lot before it's sold.

Toyota Prius - 7-day supply
Lexus LX Series - 8-day supply
MINI Cooper - 8-day supply
Audi A5 - 8-day supply
Toyota Yaris - 13-day supply
Scion xD - 19-day supply
Honda Fit - 20-day supply
Honda Civic - 21-day supply
Toyota Corolla - 23-day supply
Mercedes-Benz C-Class - 29-day supply

I guess they're not counting the cars that don't sit on lots at all?

Kind of a stupid list if it doesn't include cars that you have to be on a waiting list to get.

Amazing stats, 50% of those cars are Toyota products. Not one American vehicle on the list.

I'm kinda impressed with the C-Class. Then again, my mom just got a C300 a couple of months ago and enjoys it. Apparently, MB has been working hard to steal sales from form BMW drivers (which she was).

Her only complaint was it lacked some oomph, but a reflash on the trans seemed to help out some. (firmed up the shifts and speed it up some)

NBC Nightly News said that there is a 6 to 8 month waiting list on a Prius. That doesn't make sense to me with those numbers.

The Prius is probably intentionally limited, since Toyota loses money on each one they sell.

The LX is brand new...along with the A5 and C-class. I am sure they will be falling off the list in a couple months.

I looked at Yaris' a month ago. They had none on the lot and only one incoming. I don't know if Toyota is controlling output like they do with Scion, but they are certainly hard to get ahold of.

From what I hear is that what is limiting the sales of the Prius is that fact that they can't manufacture enough batteries to meet demand.

That list doesn't surprise me one bit being most on there get great fuel mileage. The MINI Cooper is in such high demand too of late that very few dealers even have cars in stock.

all depends on Location as well. local Mini dealer in CT has a month maybe even 3 i forget what my friend that works there told me before you can get the car.

same with the smart cars. you got a long wait before you get your car.

997 GT3 has a long wait as well if you ask my friend that sells them for porsche

I think number sold is far more meaningful than how long the ones produced stay on the lot as an indicator of how desirable the car is.

If there are 10,000 people that want a Mini this year, and you make 20,000, they will pile up on the lots, but make 5,000, there will be huge waiting lists!!!

Its all about SUPPLY AND DEMAND, and even if demand is very tiny, as long as supply is just as tiny, they won't sit on lots. The Acura NSX proved that, selling about as many in a decade as GM makes in a single year of base Vettes alone. Some manufacturers are known to use relatively low production to create false hype of "high desirability" for some models.

----------------------
Edit: And here are THE MOST POPULAR cars in America:
May 2008
1. Honda Civic 53,299
2. Toyota Corolla 52,826
3. Toyota Camry 51,291
4. Honda Accord 43,728
5. Ford F-series 42,973
6. Chevrolet Silverado 37,020
7. Nissan Altima 34,428
8. Ford Focus 32,579
9. Chevrolet Cobalt 26,702
10. Chevrolet Impala 23,803

Note that only TWO of the vehicles in the "hard to get list" are actually in the top ten in actual desirability (desirability meaning people actually sit down and buy one). The top seven in the other list, aren't on the top 10 sellers list AT ALL: Prius, LX series, Cooper, A5, Yaris, xD, and Fit!!!!!

Just sayin.

yea i am surprised the smart car is not on the "hard to get" list, since many were pre-sold. Here as already mentioned is a big wait on them ( and i am sure the $0 sales tax is a nice incentive to get one just like the prius)

I'm pretty sure it would be on this list, but the source has ommited it along with many other cars.

which IMO defeats the whole point of the list.

it should be the "the hardest to get cars that we bothered to look at."
