As always, I'm a skeptic, but hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

No 87-foot Mustang's gonna see 80 mpg.

In this article he said it gets 110mpg. I am guessing both numbers are totally fabricated. All cars that have pushed the upper limits on fuel economy needed the aid of low weight and slippery aerodynamics to do it. The Mustang has neither.
http://www.10news.com/automotive/16768626/detail.html I am always a little leary when these people make bold claims, yet can't explain any of the technology used to achieve the results...or have any patents for the technology. |

I am thinking that he has cylinder deactivation so he can go down to 1 cylinder. Then he has 1 speed transmission with a really tall gear. And he has a gigantic flywheel that keeps the car moving on the highway. And he stripped out the entire interior and replaced the body panels with carbon fiber. And replaced the glass with Saran wrap. And the wheels/tires are as skinny as bicycle tires. And the body magically tranforms into something that looks like Flight of the Navigator.
Then maybe, just maybe, he can get 110mpg. |

Riiiiiight. And I'll bet he start from 3rd gear and shifts directly to 5th all day long. Which might be possible considering the torque?

E85 runs at 9:1 AFR. It would get even better gas mileage if it ran on regular gas.
of course this is all BS anyway. I miss the good old days when people made up tall tales about what they run in the quarter mile or what amazing car they beat with their bucket. The MPG lies just arent as much fun.

I'd love to see it verified by an independent lab.
I bet it couldn't get 110 miles per gallon idling in neutral being towed behind a truck.

My 92GT was horrible on gas.
347 Stroker AFR Heads Custom grind comp cam Edelbrock RPM II upper and lower intake manifold 70MM TB 76MM C&L MAF Full MSD Ignition 30Lb injectors 255 Walbro Aeromotive billet fuel rails 1 5/8" Shorty headers 2 1/2" offroad H pipe with flowmaster 40's 3.73 gears mini spool Tremec 3550 I am sure there is more I was getting 10 MPG on pump gas as high as 13mpg as low as 7mpg. I don't see 80mpg happening. Unless someone finally figured out to make electronic valve actuators "camless engines" that can cope with engine heat. Imagine variable valve lift, infinite timing adjustability. Maximum torque and horsepower at every rpm. This technology has been out for a while I believe it was GM that was cranking out 400hp and 75mpg out of a 4 cylinder over 10 years ago. So combine this technology with turbo charging and direct injection and hybrid technology. And we are talking potentially 200mpg under ideal conditions. The technology is here, someone has to do something about it.

I met the guy in Milan at the NMRA race on Father's Day. We talked for a few minutes, but I didn't put him and the car together until this article started hitting the news.
I did see that car, but not what was under the hood. In the little free time I had while not "working", there was a bunch of people to meet with, and a buttload of cool Mustangs to check out. Ford Racing and Saleen's booths were sweet.

^ Sure. I think they would have to blow the car they build up after proving/busting the myth.
