It's not even that, its the economics of it.
Yes, a fast fusion would be cool. Really, how well do you think it would sell? Probably not all that well. It's the same going for the ST and such. You can argue all you want about a demand for it, but when the dollars and cents come down to it, its probably just not a profit maker. Volume is definitely key, but with sporty small cars comes a colossal competition market in the same parameters price wise.
I don't shame them for not building either...hell, I wouldn't either. I would evaluate whats going to pay the bills, and not what a niche market would enjoy.
