Automotive aficionado and all-around cool dude Jay Leno – today celebrating his last night has host of The Tonight Show – is set to receive the "La Bella Macchina" award this August at the 24th Annual Concorso Italiano. One of the highest honors in automotive circles, the award signifies outstanding contributions and a passion for the automotive industry. Previous recipients have included Sergio Pininfarina, Phil Hill and Carroll Shelby.

Concorso owner Tom McDowell summed up Mr. Leno well:

Jay is easily my favorite car guy. He doesn't prefer one brand over the other, he just loves all things automotive. I'd love to meet the guy and go for a walk through his garage.

wow that is quite an accomplishment, even for Jay, to get this award. That and almost right after he resigns his Television career.

He has expressed in the past that he preferred to keep his occupation and hobbies separate. While it would be really cool to see him with his own show, i understand his view. And even still, he will most likely keep doing his online commentary and videos (which is like a show in itself).

He's not stopping TV, he'll be back in Sept with a 10pm show on NBC. I guess we'll have to wait and see what its about. The one promo for the show that I saw had him driving a classic Corvette....

I heard he will be doing a "prime time" show.


I saw him on the 405 freeway today here in S. Cali. In the San Fernando Valley area. He was driving a Z06 Corvette.
