Default Cash For Clunckers (C.A.R.S.) Website: CAUTION!!!

I got this in an email, so I figured I'd pass it along. I guess when you go to "logon" to the C.A.R.S. Website, there is a standard Privacy Act that you have to read and click "Continue". But then...there is another screen that comes up that says:

"This application provides access to the DoT CARS System. When logged onto the CARS system, your computer is considered a Federal computer system and is the property of the U.S. Government. Any or all uses of this system and all files on this system may be intercepted, monitored, recorded, copied, audited, inspected, and disclosed to authorized CARS, DoT, and law enforcement personnel, as well as authorized officials of other agencies, both foreign, and domestic."

If you want to log on to the website, you have to agree to these conditions.

I'm not sitting around with my aluminum foil hat on or anything...but I'm surely not going to agree to allow the government the right to have free access to my personal files, and basically "own" my computer.

Here's a youtube video of Glenn Beck talking about it....

I actually can't even find the page that they are talking about on the website.

Maybe they changed the website because of the way things were worded?

The wording being discussed appears only on the dealership side of the site, not the consumer portal.

    Debunked here:
    http://trueslant.com/christopherthom...-your-computer

And as someone else so eloquently put it:

This is boilerplate stuff for access to an intranet like the federal government or a big company. If I went home and used VPN to access my corporate PC, my home PC would be "property" of my company for the time I'm logged in and using their network. It's about liability and maintaining the integrity of their network... not spying on your or pwning j00r boxen.

This is the biggest issue with chain letters. Even if it is true, it's always a bad idea to share it. Because in the end it's either lying or greatly exaggerating something barely applicable. Eg. "Yes, the Cash for clunkers website requires connected computers be monitored to an extent greatly above standard levels. No, it doesn't matter because anyone who gets that message is connecting through the corporate side for which such things are standard policy."

    Godspeed Gentlemen.

Glenn Beck is retarded, don't listen to anything he says.

I didn't believe it because I got it in an email...I believed it because I saw the video where the screen came up and said the things that I posted. I won't look out for anyone again...my bad.

Any time you connect to a federal computer system, you give them the right to do that.
