Here is one of the best vids we've seen that covered one of our events!

Tis a great vid. Maybe Clint should make a 4 foot front wing for his car and he'll get more coverage!

Rado i think runs his unlimited FWD car with a ridiculous front wing
Edit: yep I'm sure its functional but it sure does look terrible

I bet he has to baby that car the whole lap. I think 1k hp is a little too much for that car. Fwd with 1k hp, no traction I bet.

I heard speeds in the 180 mph ballpark at big willow last event. And absolutely enormous C90's. And he didn't have 1000 hp. Just ~750 whp
![]() I did see a quick glimpse of Gillis' car in the vid.

That car is fast as hell for a FWD.
That wing is new this year. He runs times almost as fast as the AWD guys.

We've been working with members of their team since March 2008 off and on to cover our events, but more recently with development of unique content for their website.

And Nads is the proverbial shiz.... I wanna be him someday.
But yah, that is a great vid. Jealous of the helicopter shots.

Man, I'd "think" a wing that didn't look so ridiculous could be designed/made. To think that the only way to achieve their desired effect is to have it that high up and in the line of sight in some instances is hard to believe.

With this design, the ideal would be to place the front, like the splitter. But in reality, it'd look more like an F1 type car. The limiting factor is the body style and all the crap you need to tack on to make it "work" with the body. So... just ditch the body, the FWD and go for the gold!! ![]() ![]() Goofy looking yes... but pretty functional. Like I said... thrust vectoring FTW! -bix

Considering F1 and similar race cars, I don't think it HAS to be that way to get the desired grip. They might be limited in their testing and what they can justify. I'm sure they aren't paying for time in the wind tunnel. That's just my ASSumption, though.

I know that Chris Rado and his team hired a highly skilled aerodynamics tech, to help them with this project. I believe they did not go with a low mounted wing, like in F1, due to how bumpy and rough tracks are in North America, that Time Attack events are typically organized on. It would be destroyed in a matter of laps. Based on conversations I have had with Chris, the wing generates MASSIVE downforce. The drag it creates is a negative, for sure. But with 750hp in low boost, and scramble boost/Hi Boost settings giving 1000hp, the drag can be overcome.
They are working on their AWD Scion tC that should begin running next year. I had hoped to see it this year. I do not believe they will run a front wing setup like this, on their AWD car. Speaking of the FWD car, I believe they are going to try to hit 200mph before the braking zone at Auto Club Speedway. Last year, the GST Impreza was able to hit 170ish...

Wings are also much more effective when they are mounted up high in the clean air.... The reason F1 cars don't have them is that wing heights are regulated. The tall rear wings were banned in the late 60's.

I do recall reading about regulations and rule changes, but my point was they they have achieved an effective design without being as high up.

That would be a huge milestone if they did attain that, though they might have to trim out both wings to achieve those speeds, even with the power that car produces. If you look at the picture in this post, the front wing appears higher then the rear. I think that its designed that way so the rear wing still gets 'clean' air. If they mounted the front wing lower, i would think it would create a lot of turbulence and dirty air reducing the effectiveness of the rear wing. Just a wild stab in the dark from someone with very limited aerodynamic knowledge.

Don't mind me, I'm just stuck in my world where race cars still need to look cool and not make me grumble.
Usually, I'm just gagging when I see certain circle track cars ( and I used to race them ).

Nothing wrong with having an eye for aesthetics!
From a pure performance engineering standpoint, the most functional cars are destined to not be the prettiest.
