Pretty cool, I'd like to see some footage of this thing in the snow/wet.

What you've said above is like saying, "I don't see college football coming close to real football, but it sure is fun to watch." Just because it isn't WRC (Or NFL) doesn't make it any less "real". There are many classes in rally racing, and 90+% of them can't afford to jet around the globe to play. ![]() Just a curious afterthought... Have you ever seen a Porsche 911 Rally car? A Corvette? A Camaro? A VW Rabbit? I've seen all of those and more across the years. Pretty cool stuff.

Of course it can compete!
Solid axle RWD Fords have been hauling ass in Rally Stages since at least the 60's...

It can "compete", but I don't think it'd be ideal. I'd rather have something lighter that didn't appear so twitchy (in a bad way). I'd like to see a comparison with some of our FJ rally'ers times. The Mustang wins the horsepower war, but I don't think they'd be very far off.

Back when I was 17-19, I used to tear it up from time to time on gravel backroads in our '69 Mustang Coupe. Growing up, I'd seen Dad use the car for hauling horses (In a Horse-trailer, of course) or LARGE loads of hay or firewood (In a decent-sized utility trailer), often across muddy or snowy fields. Despite not having a bed, it did many things that a Farm Truck could do if it had its trailer attached. When I look at the modern cars, everything just seems so "fragile"... like it needs to stay ON the pavement.... period. I don't know the extent of the mods on these cars, or if the packages can be ordered through Ford Racing, but it is SO REFRESHING to see a NEW Mustang get out there and sling some dirt and gravel without making me cringe over every bump. THAT is WAY Cool. ![]() It shows some "Muscle" that isn't afraid to get its hands dirty. ![]()

Actually they are, the three major rally sanctioning organizations, RA, NASA, USRC (Partial Overlay of NASA). Have combined 2WD cars into one class. So for season points a mustang and a focus are in the same class no matter what the modifications as long as they remain 2WD.
This event was actually held the day after a rally and was limited to only the two participants in the video. However it was held on a road that was used during the rally. Utecht had an advantage having run the car for the entire rally that preceded the challenge. This car will not challenge the AWD cars but AWD is such a huge advantage on the dirt that comparing any 2WD car to an AWD one is silly. Now the mustang can be competitive in 2WD competition, You just have to have a large tire budget. Lots of wheel spin = lots of melted rally tires.

Kind of silly seeing a mustang rally, but still fun none the less. Good thing it was mustang vs mustang, and not mustang vs any of them subarus.

Relax a little. You're giving yourself a blackeye.
I was just thinking it was silly rallying a mustang, it's all subjective. As far as subarus, of course a different class silly.

My point is, as has been verified by others, Rally-Racing a Mustang is Tried-And-True...
NOT Silly. They've Rally-Raced for around 45 years now.

But a good portion of it is that a lot of rallies only have 1-3 cars in each of the 2WD classes. So why not make them one class and get better competition.
