Default Chevy's Vanilla Raptor Fighter

While I realize the drivetrain is pretty insane, the rest of the truck is lacking. What a horrible color for a concept like this.

Truck Trend article is here

Pass.

Chevy just threw the motor in and stuck some CF on the truck. It says right in the article that BDS did all the suspension work on the truck.

F150 Raptor > This thing from Chevy, and it's not even close.

Yep, the Raptor is a well thought out concept, and this is a half-ass attempt by Chevy to come up with something similar.

GM used to have some pretty slick concepts back in the day (remember that killer green Malibu with the full green CF interior?) - but now it seems they only prefer to play Camaro.

Ya it would seem that GM just threw something together for the show. The Rapter has had some of the better offroad drivers behind the wheel and givin feedback. Seems to me one of the best if not the best testing ever done for a offroad street legal truck

But the article doesn't really mention that BDS did anything much beyond providing GM the ability to stuff 20" wheels and 35" tires under the fenders. Oh, and a four inch lift. Awesome.

It does seem a bit lacking in execution, with carbon fibre sprinkled in there to provide the show factor.

The article mentions that GM didn't try to match the suspension on the Raptor 'tit for tat', which just seems like an admission they didn't do much other than make the truck try to look impressive without backing up the look with extended capability.

disappointing effort.

Neat idea, not so neat execution. Really, it looks like a more toned down version of the chevy/GM trucks I see driving around town. It has some impressive hardware, but lacks the "Kick you in the nutz" look that the Raptor has.

I think that look is facilitated by the rather commonplace knowledge that it could kick you in the nuts.

I agree, this looks like any jacked up 1/2 ton driving around. The words tacked on, and haphazzard spring to mind. I'd be interesting in actually seeing something with a decent suspension. So it's taller. Great. Can it do anything, though?

There is no doubt that the Raptor has presence! When I saw them at SVT they just look mean. Going for a ride in one and hearing about all of the off-road tech packed in that truck really impressed me. The Raptor is the real deal, just like other SVT products. Its not a poser.

I remember that Malibu as well, It was called the Malibu Cruiser:

Vehicle Highlights
* Turbocharged 3500 SFI 60-degree V6 engine with larger cylinder bore and combustion chamber
* 4T65-E transaxle, four-speed automatic
* Independent Bilstein coil-over strut front and rear suspension
* Aerodyne Aerocharger 53000 series turbocharger
* Unique airbox for increased airflow demand
* BASF Sublime Lime exterior paint
* Black leather Sparco Milano interior
* Unique front and rear fascias, rear spoiler, rocker trim and raised cowl hood
* Mille Miglia EVO 19X8.5 tires
* Toyo Proxes T1-SP235/35 ZR 19 tires

The engine for this concept was borrowed from GM's minivan line, 3500 series or 3.5 liter engine. The Original engine the Malibu came with was the 3100 series 3.1 liter.

I thought it was a great looking car (the concept) since I had a malibu prior to my focus.

I don't think this concept truck will fly either. GM has too much of a problem borrowing from their parts bin to come up with something uniquely fresh and innovative. On a side note, the same deck found in my 2000 Malibu, could also be found in the 2000 Chevrolet Corvette lol!

I would take a Raptor. I doubt this is really anything close to production anyway.

Can I have one in black? Raptor's the better of the two, but I wouldn't mind driving this bow tie.

We just had another Raptor come in today, as soon as they pulled it off the transport they slapped a sold sticker in the windshield.

I can't speak for other parts of the country but we can't get Raptors in fast enough to satisfy demand. I have to say I was really impressed by the one I looked at up close.

I just don't see that. Maybe it's because I saw it in person.

That year at SEMA, there were no vehicles even close to looking like that. That was mid-'tuner'-APC-WingsWestWidemouth-stickers-everywhere Craze.
