Project updates -
New ignition coil after the oem one lost some spark and made the car stumble under boost (happened on my way to autoX, causing me to miss the event). New valve cover gasket (heh) In progress now - Can you say limited slip... ![]()

If only i had the money to be able to afford multiple sets of tires, and a trailer and attend more events.
![]() But yeah if you're in the area let me know. I learned how to get within 2 seconds of the number one guy in my class (300hp cobra on 255 hoosiers - who is also a very good driver) with an open diff by conserving momentum, but i could never get anything out of a corner except minimal accel and tire smoke... put up a WTB ad and w/in a couple days a guy says he has one for a good price, and it happens to be near cruzin4L's place... traded some focus parts, and voila. ![]() I cant wait to try this out.

yeah - but i wasn't racing @ carlisle, and i still had the belts loosen up
![]() alright, diff is in - biggest PITA was the fill plug was seized - which you cant figure out until it's in the car - as the diff will rotate with the wrench. so - get it all installed, torque the stub axle bolts, then go to take out the drain plug. oh, super. put a breaker bar on it, strip (yes i had the right size, it was really tight, okay? and already partially stripped so i think the prior owner might have had an issue), okay, now i cant use the hex bit. so .. vice grips. they just move on the bolt (tapped with hammer, even tried a jack under it). okay. more pb blaster. broke my bigger pair of vice grips trying to make sure it was on the bolt really tight (maybe i dont know my own strength?) break out the dremel, cut the outer part to mimick a bolt - fits a... 3/4 sort of. pull the whole rear cover (gives me a chance to inspect the gears - looks good btw), get my old diff, pull the drain plug out of that, hammer on an impact 3/4 bit, take it off with the impact gun. removing that plug took as long as installing the diff. ![]() went for a quick spin, drives okay. didn't really get on it tho.

Just an update:
limited slip is in, i'm going to miss the whining sound my other diff made, but it's okay, hopefully i get more grip. Race season is drawing to a close with me STILL troubleshooting a vibration i've had since the t5 install. Yes i'm working with some XR people but have yet to find a solution. trying a couple things this afternoon, if that doesn't work then i'll co-drive someone else's car @ tomorrow's event. a reputable guy out in seattle (john vanlandingham) is confident it's the t5 crossmember (basically it's just a flat piece of steel) that is the culprit, and i'm likely to believe him as he kinda knows his way around these cars. but, sadly, that wont be ready before tomorrow. Next up - (sean you'll like this) - so anyway i saw that gene had made fox mustang camber plates fit... so of course, i ordered some as i would love to be able to do that as well. basically you cut the top off the strut towers under the hood, weld and reinforce plates... slot and cut the plates to fit the camber plates, and voila. it's really funny, when someone asks what's done to the car, etc etc etc, but all they wanna know is "how much power" do i make - when the answer is, enough. no i dont need more. no i haven't really considered adding more power. yes i've been working on making it stick better. no the brakes are still stock (but new). yes, they kinda suck. no, i wont do a burnout. yes, if you come next weekend i'll take you for a fun run at the track. no, you have to race that day. yes, you need a helmet. *lol*
