Default October FOTM: Big Pimpin' - SVT2RS

The Competitors

And the winner:

SVT2RS

Quote:
First and foremost I’d like to thank Focal Jet for continuing to support all things Focus related. I’d also like to again thank Ataru for taking the leadership to run/moderate FOTM.

Secondly, I’d like to thank you to those that voted for me! While I’m not entirely sure we all understand or agree about the breadth or depth of what “Big Pimpin” really means, I truly appreciated the kind words and of course the nomination in the first place.

This car began as a baseline 2004 SVT, but I purchased it with a huge project already in mind. While I forced myself to wait an entire year before I started changing things (okay, maybe I lasted 9 months…), I have since that time quickly begun the many-fold stages of modifications. Fearing that it would soon become impossible to find the out of production Ford of Europe factory RS body pieces, I first tracked down the bumpers, fenders, side skirts and ¼ panels from England and Germany. I found a fantastic body shop in Loman, Missouri (though it has recently moved to Jefferson City) named Fischer Body Shop, and they were able to do the cutting, welding and paint work to splice together the RS parts with my SVT chassis. I had really hoped that things would be more compatible btwn the RS and SVT, but it took more time and more custom work than I initially anticipated.

To supplement the new “look” of the project, I extensively researched and then purchased a demon of a supercharger from Powerworks, which I must admit still gives me goose bumps to drive! The supercharger rather than the Garrett turbo was the first of many deviations from building a “RS”, but keep in mind I wanted to build something not quite RS and no longer a SVT. Since the PW SC, I’ve begun to reign in the power with Tein’s Super Street coilovers and this winter I’m adding a new clutch, flywheel and LSD.

I’ve only completed about half the project so far, and it’s both frustrating and exciting to think about how much more there still is do. Thank you again for voting for me this month and for helping me to stay motivated! This car is my daily driver (and my autocross/show car), plus I drive all over the country with it, so look for me on the highway! Also, I tend to update my cardomain site (see my sig at end of post) most frequently with changes to the car, so if you'd like to follow the project, that's the place to check!

I'm pretty sure he did read it. The EDFC can be controlled by the driver from inside the car. I'm interested in how he likes it too.

Great car!

Yes, the Tein SS coilovers also have a control module for monitoring/changing dampening force from inside the car (mine is mounted in the glove box). If you watch my cardomain site (link in my signature) there will be a full Tein review in the next few weeks. The review should cover everything from installation to operational satisfaction.

Bottomline though, I'm pretty impressed (w/ only minor complaints) with both the Tein coilovers and EDFC

It's actually not a RS grill. I modified a Euro grille to make my own custom one that has a 1" recess and matches mesh material with the lower grill. If you are interersted I can explain what to buy and how to cut/apoxy everyting together

Oh, ok... I was judging by the border and mesh size. The euro and RS grilles have the same border it looks like, and the RS mesh looks just like yours.
