Angry Hit and Run! 56K not bad.. PLEASE READ!?

[open rant]ok so at like 12:30 AM, January 5th I was at a gas station... I had already put gas in and I went inside to go to the bathroom... as I walked outside I saw a tan chevy pickup with a brushgaurd, lift, and exhaust on it taking off and I was like "what a douche!"... well I got to my car and saw the horrible damage... I couldnt get a plate number cuz by then he was gone... also, my luck, the gas station has one badly placed camera as to it wouldnt see the truck or even my car there... I am so mad... now I have to deal with insurance and claim adjusters, etc... because I have this car going through finance right now, am I supposed to go to the dealer to get it fixed? I want to get an SAP bumper... if it doesnt go through the dealer, I have friends that can get me parts fairly cheap but if I go to the dealership, I HAVE to get what came stock... please help me anyway you can... I am new to the insurance bit cuz this is my first reportable incident...[close rant]

Thanks,
Jacob

oh and I know the car is dirty... I just got back from work and our road there is crappy...

What a jerk! People like that piss me off, and while I can understand the immediate reaction to "get the hell outta dodge" when crap happens, you'd hope someone would be man enough to admit they made a boo-boo and hit your car. Grrr!

You're looking at a new quarter there....Its really hard to see from the pictures but it looks like you have a pretty gnarly crease near the taillight and the metal seems to be a little bit stretched in the middle of the body line....That's over $2k in damage easily. The whole quarter has to be either repaired(depending on the extent of that dent, I cant tell from the pictures) or replaced and painted and blended halfway up the pillar, then I myself would blend it about 1/4 of the way across the back door because grey metallic is a bitch to match. Good luck man.

thats a bad picture of your truc....i mean car jacob. Good luck on getting it fixed. Why not just get the normal bumper, and leave the insert black instead of color matching it?

if u get the sap, it will cost nearly double what a stocker will cost. When I tried, they told me I would have to pony up an additional $600 on top of my $500 deductable. The front is just stupid expensive. good luck on anything you do.

****!

that's a ridic amount of damage for anything I can imagine someone doing in a gas station. drifting through the station gone wrong or something?

I would at least file a police report incase something comes up. Really no harm in trying. From my experience with insurance, if you're going to get them involved, keep them in the loop with everything you do (besides the backdoor deals you make with the garage guys)

When my Escape was backed into, I talked the guys at the garage to spray the front and rear bumpers as well as the fender flares since they were already blending on the 1/4 panel. I did the sanding myself and shot some primer, and they worked the extra paint cost into the final price the insurance company paid up. Not entirely advised, but can definitely be done. I'd imagine the insurance company would have multiple ways to screw you if you pull what I pulled, but I was young and ignorant.

Keep in mind, the adjuster and claims person your working with is the one writing the check. If you're honest with them and offer to pay the difference they're more likely to allow that than be a douche and only settle for replacing the stock part.

So in a sentence, my advice is: file a claim with the description and let your insurance company know you're doing so.

IMO it is people that drive bow ties in general but particually the ones that drive the trucks, but it has gotten bad overall.

I agree even a crappy gass station camera shoulda gotten some features of the truck. Ford, Dodge, chevy and toyota trucks have their own unique spots that point them out. Even without the plate you can also ask around the repair shops in town to look out for the description. If you happen to spot one like it on the camera....you know where your spare lug wrench is

File a Police report first and foremost. I don't know if Texas cops do this, but alotta cops will call around the body shops in the area and give a description of the guys truck and that its damaged with that color paint on it. Hopefully they do. Take a ride around town late, late at night or earrrly in the morning and lookout, street by street sweep. Don't try that if your town is huge though. Call around to all the shops that do work in the area and let them know what happened and ask them to keep a heads up. Hes gotta get it fixed eventually, somewhere, and knowing how dumb most criminals are he'll do it in town.
