Since it's still January and I am still reminded of Gary, here's a tribute:

I raise a glass
in honor of your name.
For those that knew you,
are not ashamed.

I think that is fabulous idea. I would donate whatever time and money I could to that. Does anyone know if his family is trying to sell the car to cover expenses?

I am ashamed that I did not know about Gary's passing until today. I am deeply saddened by this news and wish I could express my gratitude to the man for all he gave me in the time I knew him.

Gary was my first instructor at VIR in 2004. His enthusiasm, generosity and energy has never been matched (and I know it never will). His ability to share his knowledge and passion was truly a gift. I joked with Gary many times about the fact that he was responsible for my addiction. I had him as an instructor several more times and watched him share his passion with other new students at other events.

I learned this news as I was preparing to plan out this year and make sure I made it to at least one event to where Gary would be.

To those that knew him so well and those I met because of him (Joe, Dave, Bri, et al), my deepest sympathies.

Gary you will truly be missed - I hope they have an amazing road course up there.

I found this picture and decided it was a fitting tribute. I worked several laps at VIR full to pass this Cobra (just imagine how much I had to work to make up all the distance on the straights). I guess the corner workers couldn't believe I'd earned the pass because they waved the pass flag at ME at the next corner station.

This thrilling session would never have happened if Gary had not been a part of my life.... Thanks Ole Crazy Man.
