Default Project s10, updated--going into paint very soon

Here she is now almost finished. This is updated by the way, not my original post.

She looked like hell when she came home...

The inside of the bed is in great shape and the rust on the outside was all we had to deal with, it's hard to find a long bed without huge rust holes inside the bed so we're re-using this one.

The dash was is in great shape, seat just needs work

My friend helping with the disassembly

Here she is torn down, we'll be grinding out all the rust on the frame and repainting it black along with replacing mounts

Here she sat unfinished waiting on title work, but with frame painted and new front end, inner fenders and all on.

My grille mod of course

Fast forward to today, title work is being done saturday at 10AM finally! Started work on her again today after months and putting the finishing touches in
Here is the gutted interior prepped for undercoating since I wont be using carpet.

It came out great

Here she sits now, ran great today the body work is almost done, all the black spots are ground down rust that is now primered and awaiting a thin layer of bondo to smooth it out. The bondo you see on the bed is not just bondo, it is mostly fiberglass with a thin layer of bondo over top.

Thats it for now, almost road ready.

Update: 4/1/08

Starting on shaving a body line. I just finished shaving the body line and I will have to sand it down and throw another coat on the low spots and re-sand. This is my first major body work project so it's a bit messy but i'm learning. The only way i've ever learned is doing it, no one else to help me so I have to figure it out for myself.

Here is the start

Can kinda see the tailgate here

****ty dark pictures

I'm about tired of working on it and dealing with this thing by now. I'm worn out so down, I cant wait till it goes off to paint and I can focus on other things. I have a long way to go........

Updated again: 4/5
I finished sanding down all the rough spots today and i'll need another thin coat to finally finish shaving the body line.

So at the end of this day, im ****ing tired and almost bored out of my mind with this project. I'm not going to kill myself trying to get it done though because then it will end up looking half assed. I only worked until 7 o'clock today and I had to stop.

Update 4/7--- Last coat to smooth things out is on and trim was all taken off today. There are a few more small oddball rough spots where rust once was pitting on the truck that I have to smooth out yet. I found that i'm going to put the truck in primer for awhile, I'm planning black and silver.

Updated 4/8: What body line? Shaving complete and smooth as the ass on a baby.

Are we looking straight yet? Yep.

I'll have a little more fine tuning to do tomorow but I had a palm sander save my ass today. So a little bit of work left yet and she'll be ready for the paint work. The hard parts over and damn am I glad, I had my ass handed to me by that truck today.

4/15
I applied some putty to fill in some small spots and help keep the bondo from cracking out.

4/21
Time to get ****ing LOW!!!!

4/22
Wonder whats going on now?

Update 4/26?
The start of the slamming

1 side done....

The old rusty junk that came out

Front done!

Finished!

4/27--I probably have about 50 miles on the new suspension and we're sitting alot lower now that things are settling.

The neighbors friends s10 w/ a GMC grille (note the wheel gap)

5/10/08--Saying goodbye to the speckled trout. I always loved the paint scheme on teh tribal and thought I would do a tribute to it so I pmd ROB and asked him about it and got the go ahead.

I have her wetsanded down here and ready for some paint.

First coat of black on here

The body line disappearing some more

The start of the taping

Finished with stage 1 of taping

Now to fill in between

thats all for now, aluminum goes on tomorow.

5/11---raining today so I got to use my parents garage as they are out of town for the week. I got it all but done, there are a few more finishing touches yet though....

Parade float:

First layer of silver

Second layer of silver

and third layer

Now I get to untape what took me HOURS.....

Ready?

and finally for a comparison....

and from the rear

4/13 --Done except trim rings

Well nothing is rusted through and cab mounts are in good condition. We have a new front end and beleive it or not the bottom of the bed is one of the best i've ever seen.

If you have the spare cash just buy a fiberglass bed. My uncle did that for his 79 ford pickup and it was way easier than trying to fix the rust carnage on his. Well if you have even more you can get a ls1 motor and call it a day..

I really miss my 93 S10...4.3 V6. Such an awesome little truck. Unfortunately I had a penchant for dirt roads...and they had a penchant for bending my motor mounts...next thing you know it looked liked my transmission had ice-cream all over its face on a regular basis.

Ah, the S-10. Reminds me of when I worked at Disneyland. We had a S-10 in our dept. and everyone would just ruin the thing. Throw it in reverse while driving, pull out the headliner, take the knobs off the AC, burn holes in the seats, back into things. My coworkers were nutz. Ah, the memories.

Wont be out for anything like that, it's a great truck for some drifting action though. The 4.3 has plenty of power for that.

Yeah, that's cool. I wouldn't expect you to ruin a project car. I'm sure it's gonna kick ass. I was just thinking back to my freekin' co workers and the way they retalliated on Disney. Personally, I took my revenge by calling in sick.

I had a 91 Sonoma reg. cab. shortbed w/ the 4.3L and a 5speed. It was a tank. Would do burnouts for days. I loved that truck.

They're hard to find in good condition now. I always wanted an extra cab w/ a V8 in it.
