I am a 64 year old retired shop teacher. I have had numerous summer and part-time jobs including auto mechanic, motorcyle mechanic, machinist and gunsmith. I was introduced to the car hobby at age 14 helping my father work on his cars. My main hobby now is going to Auto-X's and Track events to help other Focus owners and take pictures and videos for them. My other hobbies include Amateur Radio, computers and target shooting.

My Car: 2001 Street Edition Focus Sedan

I was not looking to buy a new vehicle when I got the Focus. I was killing time at the local Ford dealership while my truck was being serviced when a salesman offered a test drive in a Street Edition Focus. I liked the car so much that I sold the truck and bought the Focus.

Since the truck was an award winning show truck I decided to go the performance route with the Focus. Therefore interior and exterior modifications are minimal.

Interior:

Door Lock button light mod

Exterior:

Bullitt Mustang Gas Door
Black Powdercoated Stock Wheels
Redline Tuning Hood struts
Fog Light mod

Suspension:

SVT Suspension
SVT Brake Conversion
Torsen LSD
Eibach Rear Sway Bar

Engine:

Powerworks Supercharger
Fidanza Cam Gears
Ford Racing Stage 2 Cams
FocusSport Street Header
Random Technology Catalytic Converter
Focus Central Flexpipe
FocusSport Stealth Cat-Back Exhaust
Screamin Demon Coil
Ford Contour Sparkplug Wires
Z-Engineering Rear Motor Mount

This SVT has been with the original owner in Phoenix since July '02. Right away I upgraded lighting in headlights and fogs (the first week) to Osram Silverstars, installed the European tail lamps, and relocated the reverse lamp to behind the lower bumper grill. I had the car tinted with the same Huper Optik film I had such good luck with on my ZX3. At first I ran the Team Dynamics M/sport wheels for awhile but upgraded to the ASA AR1's on Pirelli Pzero Nero's (I still use the Team Dynamics wheels with Pirelli Corsas occasionally). I did the front brake conversion to the Baer Track kit (330mm rotors) and run the EBC red pads front and rear. The car has had an 'eventful' past and whilst the reliability has been poor, the good times have been noteworthy to say the least, so I have stuck with the car through thick and thin. After the engine was replaced as well as the clutch twice I decided the Phoenix climate warranted upgrading the cooling system so I changed out the stock radiator for the Flowdyne aluminum unit and I also added an aftermarket Mocal Oil Cooler. Other mods along the way include: K&N Aircharger (short ram intake), Borla Exhaust, ORP, Coil kit and wires, ground kit, HO Alternator, Optima Battery, Cibie driving lights X4 and Cibie rear fog lamp, covered factory fog lamps, headlamp covers, North Viking rear wing, painted carbon fiber hood, billet fuel door, Kenwood DDX 7017 DVD/CD player, Alpine amp and speakers, Valentine One, Uniden Beartracker and K40 Laser Diffuser, Momo Street Racer seats, Momo dead pedal, Momo Shift knob, Sabelt harnesses, and a full size spare on matching ASA wheel. This car mainly does club events, with the majority of it's time spent on mountain drives with either Dezert Focus or on occasion, other car clubs. It's been to Texas, Montana and SoCal (several times, including FOTB 2004) and it 'spectated' at the Prescott Forest Rally 2007. It has spent most of it's 80K+ miles as a daily driver and has recently earned the right to be reserved mostly for events and special occasions.

Some hard choices in this one. I'll need some time to think. I've got it narrowed down to 2 cars.....atleast!

You get my vote Hal, cuz I want to be tracking my Focus when I hit your number in, well, a few years (although my car almost undoubtedly won't make it that long, and I'll also probably retire to tending my perennial beds and raised veggie boxes before then).

But I have a question.

Does this photo:

The pic is just of the interior. On the Euro Focus with power locks and windows all the switches were lit. Ford, in its infinte wisdom, only had the window switches lit on the US version.

The light is built in to the switch and is present on the US version. It just isn't wired up. So I wired it up. If you search in the Interior Forum you should be able to find a "How To" to do the mod yourself.

Hah. That's funny. Learn something new every day. First I have to dig up some stumps in our yard. Heh.

tough choice. I like what Hal has done to his car, i love what he has done with it.

i'm going to have to go with zekester on this one - for the simple fact that the car is now, and has always been, immaculate. mild modifications allow the car to be 100% suited to our fun winters AND summers, plus engine swaps are a hoot in a shop that is insanely well prepped.

Voted for Hal since he's probably one of the most active track rat members I've ever met here on the East coast.

And if I'm not mistaken, there's a small chance that those black painted wheels may be the ones that came on my car when new.
