Default It's a money pit, but it's my money pit.

When I'm at the track for a lapping day, I see all the guys with their GT3s, Vipers, Elises, and such, and sometimes have to admit feeling a tinge of envy. But mostly, I feel insanely lucky to be able to have this little Focus as my own track day sled dog.

There's no doubt. It's a @#$%ing money pit -- especially since I'm not particularly mechanical and leave all the work to my mechanic. Thanfully, he keeps it running, despite the abuse it gets and my efforts to shake all the mounting bolts loose from March to October.

I got out for a fantastic first event of the season (for me) in Portland last weekend on a reconfigured track with an all-new surface. I did share a few photos of the day with the local [FJ] folks earlier this week, but here are a couple of shots for Team Rigz (photos by Kent Regan of www.onsightproductions.net).

Some. Car has been posted here before. I'm just posting a couple pix from my first day out after a long winter of getting welded on and sitting in a shop's garage. My public profile has a link to the car's home page. Plenty of info there under Modifications. There are some progress pix at that blog site too.

Awesome car! Something we track nuts should strive towards.

Well...the truth is my car is definitely heavier than ideal for use as a track car. With the exception of the seats, airbags, stock wheel, and some bits of plastic, this car has the entire interior in place. It still has the AC and heater blower, etc. And, as I've mentioned elsewhere, the cage is built from 1.75 x 0.12 wall DOM. Had I been thinking ahead back in 2005, I would have started with a 1.5 in OD 4-point roll bar instead. Live and learn. But the upshot is more poundage for the bar than really necessary. Then there are the coolers -- PWSC heat exchanger, PS cooler (Focus ATX cooler), and a Mocal oil cooler -- all fiiled with fluids. The PWSC also has a fluid reservoir...and then there is the SC itself. The weight of the car now? 2866 lbs. with no driver in place (although it did have the spare wheel and jack in when weighed). That is no lightweight.

So: I think you'd want to strive for something considerably less porky than that as the optimal weight for a track toy. But, like I said: It's my money pit and I need my tunes and AC for the ride to the track. Plus, cruise control FTMFW!

YMMV.

This is easily the best track/street SVT I have ever seen. Beautiful execution & a model for what I'd love to do someday. I love the Centerlines on your car...just one question, you have an extra one laying around you don't need??

that road race gear front lip is freakin awesome. I wish they had one that fit the standard focus, really completes the front end man

chewbacca made something like it for non-SVTs and offered his template to interested peoples. Mine was a custom adaptaon of the www.roadracegear.com piece. Not the cheapest way to go.

I wish they were not in a polished finish. Painted would be easier to clean and less shiny. I also wish they had a more conservative offset (closer to the stock), but they are what they are. They have street rubber on them now that I've had for a couple of years as a wet setup, but I so loathe the wet that I never take the car out unless it is dry (which is a trick in the PNW). I'm trying to use them up now on dry pavement. Portland is not bad for them as it is now a VERY smooth surface, but these RS2s do howl like banshees when pushed.

I know what you mean, I have the exact wheels, at least I did before I ran over a toolbox the day after X-mas (hence the reason I was asking if you had an extra). They look great when they are clean but they get dirty reeeeeeeeeal fast. How low do you have your KWs set up so you don't rub?
