I'll be thinking about it until it happens. Unfortunately butt dyno results don't matter much in competition. I'd give up a small bit of tq to eliminate 2 useless shifts. If you've ever autocrossed and needed that extra 200 rpm, you'll know what I mean. Someday I may have to change, but I'm not one to live on the limiter. Maybe I'll talk with Leo and get one of those uber short 4.5x gears that way I'll be using 5th at every track

I'll do a bit more excel work. I will probably be using taller than stock SVT tires. We'll see.

When I talked to Leo he said they didnt have those anymore. And the shifts wont be useless because you will be going faster!! NASA PT rules say FD ratio changes dont count as any points too so you may as well take advantage. Personal preference. Good color tho.

Not necessarily. Let's say I'll be doing 120 into turns 9 and 1 at WSIR. With 3.82 gears, that would be 4th gear, <6500 rpm. With 4.06 gears, that would require a shift to 5th a bit higher than 5000 rpm, then back down to 4th for 9, back to 5th for the straight. Available tq at that speed is nearly identical with each scenario with the stock intake manifold, so lost time would be in the shifts. With a cossie IM, 3.82 gears would offer more wheel tq in 4th than 5th w/4.06 gears so lost time would be in shifts and slower acceleration.

On another note, 4th gear with 4.06 gears will reach ~130 with a 7400 rpm limiter. Much improved from ~119 w/6750. I'll have to see what speeds the car will hit at that track with bolt ons and sticky rubber. Jefe, care to join in? Did you reach 5th with your puny zetec?

I don't have THE tallest geared machine known to man, but close

3.42's with 225/40/17 I've got a set (or more ) of 225/45/17 tires waiting for a home under some twilight blue metallic fenders but I have quite a bit of time before these NT555's are gone. I had 3.73 gears on my blazer with a 33" tall tire and a 2.52 first gear on the TH350. I also probably had nearly 400 tq.

My puny zetec and 4.06 gears didn't make it out of 4th at cal speedway when I was there. But it got close Right about 7k rpms going into the banking. I am sure a D23 would make 5th a requirement there.
Also on the back straight at Mid Ohio my little mouse powered car doesn't need 5th either.

Thanks Reza, me too. I think Alex will probably drive first, so it should have a bit better luck

I was hitting the speed limiter before start/finish with my puny zetec and 3.82 gears. It had a small bit left in it, but I don't think I could reach 126 mph with no power.

^Yeah at Cal Speedway w/ 225/45/17s and stock trans and the only power mod being an intake I never got into 5th. I would have shifted right before the turn but then wouldnt have had the torque to carry me through so I just stayed at 6300rpm or so all the way through @ 120.
With that mighty 2.3 you'd better not have a limiter next time!

I didn't feel the need to unhook the VSS. I was okay w/105 Didn't really feel like testing my crappy street tires and my newB driving skillz my first time out around turns 1 & 2. I'm gonna put off a tune for as long as I can, but the VSS will be unhooked next time it needs it

Default Re: My new toy

This weekend was a good one. I installed fresh rotors and HP+ pads, ss brakelines off my other car, and did a decent flush with motorcraft fluid. I may have to run a bit more through the system before the track day. I also installed my Auto_x_zts 7/8" adjustable rear sway bar. I'll leave it at the lowest (~21.5mm) setting for now, but probably end up bumping it up as the infineon weekend progresses.

Rob also had some crash bolts up front for camber correction, so I un-corrected them all the way out for extra negative. I had 1-1/8" toe out from the adjustment, so it must have done something good. Put the alignment at 1/16" out up front and 1/16" in at the rear, and even had the steering wheel straight in about 4 total attempts. I should post a pic of my toe plates. I think you'd all get a kick out of my AHI (Allen's Home Improvement) sponsored 3/4" birch and jigsaw setup way cheaper than longacre.

I see a Shelby Charger in the first pic, who's is it? What year is it and what's done to it? I had one for a little while but it sat for a while after I bought it and when I went to get it ready to drive lots of stuff needed to be fixed so I sold it. I wish I still had it though, it was an 85 and blue with silver

I don't believe that one is a shelby charger, but Omni will for sure come to correct me. I can say you might be sad as they are disassembling a shelby charger to use parts for that car. Right now, it is heartless. But that should be taken care of shortly

Oh, and to answer your question, OmniFocus is ChargerSitting for some friends in the NorthEast. He takes great care of it

Here's the right side pic, damage courtesy of Croc Tease!

Eventually, I'm gonna see if I can access the dent through the gas door and maybe pop it out. I'm not too worried about it. It's a track toy

i think that dent will giv you unfair aero advantage over the others

I will protest If i get to compete against you

I had a dent very similar to that one for so long I forgot what my car looked like without it. It didn't look right when I got it fixed a few months ago

Yup. Most of the nittos are 225/45 and we don't run that size any more. A couple are barely scrubbed in. There are also a couple 235/40 tires that wouldn't last a day on the scion, so I took 'em home. Also, any blue that you see on the NT01s (particularly on the shoulder) mean the tire has been overheated and is no longer fast.

The 215/45/16 Azenis 215 stack in the back are pretty much done, maybe 1/32, but I got a good deal on the 16x7 Kazera KZV wheels

The stack all the way to the right are 205/50/15 RA1s on stock 15's I got for free that will probably get corded at Infineon.

I have 205/45/17 Falken ziex512 tires on my Ford Racing 5 Spokes that the red car is sporting. Those probably only have 3/32 or so. I have 225/40/17 Nitto NT555 tires on the 17x7.5 Rota SDR's on the blue car right now. At my parents house I have stock 16x6 wheels with 205/50/16 BFG Gforce sports that I haven't decided what to do with. That's 31 tires including doughnuts
